HELP!!! SRX 700 wont start....

Help guys Im new to the forum and my sled wont start. I havent riden it since last winter and it seems like no matter how many times i pull the dang thing it wont turn over. Any ideas??? Gas should be fine, are the carbs clogged, something else???

Have any of you guys experienced this problem too? Almost every year i have it, i need to bring it in to get the jets cleaned (i think) to get it to run.

Is it easy to clean the jets? How do i do that?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!!! ;)!
 
If you pull the vent hose from the gas tank and blow in it with your mouth plug it with a screwdriver and than try it.It is on the side were the secondary is and tucked in were the cdi is screwed on.Cleaning the carbs is alot bigger job!You might want to remove them and have a shop or a bud in the know do them.
 
I had this happen to me this year when I got mine out. Luckily I have electric start. It's probably junk gas and or dirty carbs. You could try draining what's in the float bowls and either siphoning out the old gas from the tank and filling it up with new again or at least mix in some fresh gas with it. My friends did the same thing this year too and he didn't get it to run until he drained the carbs and added fresh gas.

Is this typical yearly maintanence for an 1998 SRX 700, every buddy i have just stabilizes their gas and their sleds start up within a few pulls the next year. Are yahama's just messed up???

Its not fun to drop $100 every year just to get the jets cleaned to have the sled start......

I don't know about it being typical but I didn't put Sta-Bil in mine last year. And my friend had pre-mix in his tank all summer because he had rebuilt the motor and Hauck told him to run the pre-mix. I think that's why he had to drain his carbs. Oh and another thing I was gonna say is I just had my carbs apart (several times) and they were super clean even though I didn't use Sta-Bil or anything but I'm not gonna do that again.

Cleaning the carbs SHOULD be an annual maintenance item. It will save you from spending BIG$$$$$ on an engine rebuild.

It's really not that hard once you do it once. Get yourself a CLymer manual or the OEM one and pull the airbox and then the carbs. Folloow the instructions in the manual and do each carb individually so you don't get the parts mixed up.

Make sure you clean the main jet, pilot jet neddle jet, the pilot screw (remember the number of turns from the lightely seated position) and all of the carburetor passages. Use an aresosol carbcleaner and compressed air.

Once you do it once, it's no big deal. Even if you use fuel stabilizer I would still recommend cleaning the carbs before the season.

The shelf life of fuel is abourt three weeks now so it's no wonder your having trouble starting the sled

at the beginning of every season i have a real hard time starting my 99 srx 700 also! at the end of every season i fog down my engine and put fuel stabilizer in my tank. every year it takes around 30-35 pulls to first start. then its fine. i think that the carbs go dry and it takes that many pulls to get the float bowls filled back up. not sure if this is normal , but thats the way mine is. btw , this is with new plugs installed .
 
Seca iam with you i do the same every year and put in fresh gas.But now i put some pressure in the gas tank and will fire up after a dozen pulls.The fuel pumps gits a air lock and need some gas there to start pumping again.

I wouldn't even think of trying to start my sled after sitting all summer with out first pulling the carbs. It is one of the most important maintence procedures to follow. The new 4 strokes also have such small pilot jets that they require the carbs to be removed also after sitting all summer. Once you learn how to remove the carbs it only takes about 10 to 15 minutes to take them off. Carb removal on most 2 strokes and 4 strokes is a simple process. Just make sure you put everything back on right and tight you don't need the airboxes or carbs slipping out of the boots.
 
well for me now i take out plug and put gaz directly in cylinder and you pull only few time
 
A $100 bucks!!!!

bring it over here and i'll do it free, try pulling all the plugs out
and put some pre-mix gas in each cyl. put plugs back in and give
her a wirle, you may have to do it 2-3 time but it should fire up
if not carbs need to come off an a total cleaning is needed.

is it getting spark??

no it's not typical of a yammie are you kidding me..LOL :)

There are many factors that will lead to the need to clean the carbs, from stroage methods, type of oil used/quality of fuel and even the climate conditions of the storage area(outside or humid being worst). The other thing to consider is that tripples will have smaller jets than twins and therefore are more prone to pilot jet plugging, even in well stored sleds. Anyway, it doesn't take much to plug the pilot jets considering thier size.

ia'm with bluewho on this one. got to be an airlock problem. next season , i will do the pre-mix down each cyl. bet it works. fuel has to be backing up past the fuel pump intake and this is why it takes mine 30-40 pulls to get started at the begining of each year. this must be the problem because after 10-20 pulls when i pull the plugs they are dry .
 
Pouring gas in your cylinder is a option and might work for some guys but it will hydro lock if you put in to mutch.Dip the plug in gas and let one drip go down the cylinder any more than that is risky from my experiance with my srx.

Thats why you only use a few oz's in each cyl., i do this every year
when starting up fpr the season,better than pulling 50 times on a dry
cyl.,works real well, yea you just don't dump alot in..
 
What I do is run it out of gas in spring with stabil and by pulling the hose too. Then suck out old gas, put in fresh, pull plugs, ground plug wires, keeping ignition off, spray some wd-40 in the plug holes and slowly pull it over about 25 times. Give her another spray of wd (flammable) and it usually starts and stays running in 1-2 pulls. BTW, a few years ago, a motorcycle mag tested many brands of sta bil type products and found Yamaha's brand the best.
