Yes, you need a puller.

You can get one from Rich Motorsports here on the board for a reasonable price. Also, do some research on how to use the puller before trying to pull your primary using it.

While your at it add the holder to your purchase. It makes it so much easier to keep it from rotating. Well worth the additional cost. Basically with the holder you can use standard hand tools on the puller and not beat up your primary rigging something to keep it in place.

I picked one up at the Novi show for under $30. A good puller is about the same price.
You can probably make one if your good with steel.
Here is my holder. I added the tape cause it was easier than deburing.

Holds the primary in either direction and is long enough to rest under/on top of the secondary's attachment bolt.
It's 1/8" plate and looks like it was stamped out. I can take some measurements. I think it should be pretty easy to make a "C" shaped holder like this.
