08 rtx-mtx- 596 lbs
08 phazer- 476 lbs
No weights for the nytro's listed.
Off yamaha's website.
mul.
The Apex MTX being 46 lbs. heavier than the short track model is unacceptable IMO.
Dragon RMK is listed as being only 6 pounds heavier than the Dragon 121". Ski-Doo's Summit 800 145" is only 10 pounds heavier than the short track MXZ.

I have never driven a four stroke but on paper they look way too heavy for me. Yamaha should be losing weight not adding weight. Even though there is a little more horsepower that is still alot of weight to throw around in the trails.
From what I am seeing, yamaha's are right there with the other sleds as for weight. Below are some results from Maximumsled.
WET weight (ready to ride) not dry.
F1000 2strk was 19.5 lbs heavier than Apex ER
Polaris FST turbo 4 strk 30lbs heavier than Apex ER
F5 2strk was 64lbs heavier than Phazer GT
Blizzard 600 2strk was 6 lbs heavier than new Nytro FX
Jag 1100 4Strk was 80 lbs heavier than new Nytro FX
I know the new stuff from Ski-Doo is supposed to be lighter for 2008 than their previous years but the numbers don't seem to be to far off.
Most guys look at a 4 strk and say their too heavy looks like they a way closer than most think.
Check out the story for yourself at maximumsled.com

Did anyone see the new ski doo's? They apparently lost 50 lbs. That puts the 800HO at 450 ish pounds.

All i can say is there pricing needs to be more competive.I have ask this question once before? what is the insurance rates for basic liability for the big cc models.anything over 700cc around my area some ins. companies wont even look at you for a quote.

I will wait and see what the new doo weights are when they are weighed by someone else. I try not and beleive hype... I still remember beign at a show and lifting the front end of a zx doo off the ground and thinking it was about the same as my old sx. I said so to my buddy and the doo guy came running over to promptly tell me that was impossible and it was 100 lbs lighter and infinitely better. man, must have been a light sled

I understand if they seem to heavy to you, but quit thinking that making a 4 stroke "light" is an easy task. Yamaha has done a tremendous job shaving weight every year since they introduced them to the market. Give credit where credit is due. Just cuz something is light doesn't make it better. How did they Add wieght?

and properly set up, they can feel light and nimble in the trails. only in the huge bumps does it really seem evident. or in the deep

I rode my first RX1 with the mono shock on the weekend...wow..was I impressed...for the short burst of riding I did, it felt identical in weight to my viper...so now that these newer machines are 2 generations newer...I can only imagine they feel, ride and drive lighter...Unless yer blazing yer own trail in extreme conditions would you ever know the difference...
I'm sooo sold on 4 strokes now...the smile on my face is still hard to erase...this new Nytro should fill any nay sayers gap fer sure...

Your #1 performance shop!
You guys who complain about the weight have obviously never ridden one. Yamaha has done a great job on centralizing the mass so you do not feel the weight. The FX Nytro without reverse weighs 476 lbs dry and the reverse model weighs 484.

Had the chance to ride a 2006 Apex last week for the first time, all I can say is WOW!! The sled did feel heavier than my Sx700 but I'll take that trade off after trying it. I don't ride off trail, all groomed trail and lake running and this sled was just a blast to ride. That motor is a piece of work!!! I haven't been a 4 stroke fan, the RX-1 did not impress me, but if the new Nitro engine is anything like the Apex for performance and sound I just may be looking at a new sled.
