Went up to Haliburton, Ontario with the gang (14 guys) this weekend and did some racing on the multitude of lakes out there. By racing I mean flat out runs, not 500-3000' drag races. To give you an idea, some of the lakes up there are 3 miles long. Note worthy results against my clutched, but otherwise stock 03 Viper were as follows.
In the faster (than me) category:
07 Mach Z 1000 - pulled away with ease at any speed
06 Attack (136") - pulled away with ease, but not a quick as the 07 Mach Z
In the slower (than me) category:
06 MX Z X 800 H.O. PowerTEK - better off the line and mid, but not top end
05 MX Z X 800 H.O. - same as above
03 MX Z Renegade 800 (136") - killed me off the line, no match mid or top end
06 RS Vector - close off the line, walked away easily over 60-70 mph
07 MX Z Trail (500ss, which is really a 600cc) - no match, smaller CCs
There was also a 01 MX Z X 700 (clutched and piped) there as well. We were dead even with the exception of the launch (stupid stock track).
All in all, not a bad result for the little Viper that could. Beating the two 800 HOs felt really good. If we were doing 80 mph and hammered it, I could pull a sled length on them in about 7 seconds. Boy were they pissed!
Special thanks to MrViper and SNOWRULES for getting me all setup!

Can you let the cat out of the bag for me?? I have a stock 03 Viper too and would love to know the clutch set up you are using. Any info would be very much appreciated. -Ed

Its only a little 700!
LOL!!!
LOL!!!
LOL, what's my clutch setup? What it worth to ya, $$$?
Well its no secret, all I did was follow the advice of the people on here. Check out the following thread: clutching an 03 viper
Please note, and MrViper will back me up on this, YOUR RESULTS MAY VARY.
My setup might be a good starting point, but will likely need some fine tuning to be perfect. However, I think the key was the 48/34 helix, but I can't be sure. Only did a little testing with other cut angles.

I dragged an Attak on sunday. I won one, lost the other. On the loss I was realing him in fast, but we only went for 500' or so. I'm also under revving at 8000, so I'm def impressed with this srx even though it's not running at it's peak.
Yet another weekend, yet another takedown. Thought I'd swing by the radar runs at Constance Bay this weekend and watch the fun unfold. Eventually got tired of watching and had to have a go myself. After a quick clutching tweak, I managed to pull a 112.6 MPH on my first pass. Did a couple more passes for good measure and hit a 114.3 on my last attempt. Not bad for a stock clutched Viper with a full tank of gas.
Anyway, back to the topic of this thread, the big takedown of the weekend. Well this weekend's big kill was ME. Hey BenderSRX, I guess everyone's luck has to run out some time. Guess it's part of the cost of going fast!

awwwwwwww man how the hell did that happen? did it go right through? did you catch it in time to keep from overheating? is that the front or rear exchanger?

112 and 114 with a stock viper? on radar? My viper certainly must have some issues....
I was smart and checked both the coolers after the races (just in case), no issues. Drove it home and checked again, 3 studs missing and the damage above to the front cooler. WTF I wasn't driving that hard, poor trail conditions I guess. Anyway, I have to double check, but at idle they were not leaking any fluid. It must be close though, the big one is really deep. Hopefully I can find someone that will weld it in the sled; I don't want to have to take that front cooler out. In the mean time I think I'll take the studs out until I get another track, don’t think this stock track can handle the stress anymore.SNOWRULES said:awwwwwwww man how the hell did that happen? did it go right through? did you catch it in time to keep from overheating? is that the front or rear exchanger?

Id just tighten your track a few turns. If its not leaking than no big deal. Mine looks like that and after i readjusted a year ago Ive had no problems.
Not bad advice, but I don't think this was caused by ballooning. The track is original and I think it's started to dryout and weaken. I've had a few studs pull through this year (about eight), but I usually catch them when they first start to rip. Then I just remove them and drop them into an adjacent section. Anyway, too many holes in it now, it's time for a new one.YAMAHIZAL700 said:Id just tighten your track a few turns. If its not leaking than no big deal. plus getting rid of that cone track will be better anyways, I saw a brand new 02 srx track in the classifeds a while back for cheap, those are light(good topend speeds) and when installed backwards give good traction, your studs will still keep any braking issues under control.
As for the exchanger if it isnt leaking dont sweat it, if its leaking they can be tig welded right in the sled, just remove the driveshaft and rear susp/track, plenty of room to work in there then. I am sure youd know to completely drain all the coolant from sled and wash area to be welded good then clean with brake clean or something so the weld can get penatration.

Nice meeting you
Hey Yamherdown it was nice to meet you this weekend. That sucks about the heat exchanger, last week when i changed my track i had the same on both sides, i don't know how the studs did not go through the exchanger. Do you have studs running on the outside or are they down the middle. If you have studs on the outside i would pull them all out. I was missing 7 or 8 studs from my old track and they were all on the outside. I was not so lucky when the studs pulled out it took a few lugs with them. I have some picks of the action and i will create a new post.

177mph
I did not see the 177mph pass but i did see the Yami-Doo at 169 on his last pass of the day and it was sweet. I got a video of the Supercharged Apex blowing the track at 165.8. My roomate was taking the video and it hit him. I will create a new Post.

Actually, no I got there kind of late and missed all the big action. Saw the track the guy (Dave?) blew though, that would scare the out of me at 160+ MPH and no brakes. Snapped it straight across, wow.modsrx said:did u see the sled who did 177 mph wow i'm far behind lolllllll
Yah, I know this really nice guy with a used one that's already drilled for studs, perhaps he'll chim in and let me know the cost of borrowing it. Don, any guestimate no top speed loss if I go to a 1" Hacksaw? Should be same as current, but with better hook up?mrviper700 said:plus getting rid of that cone track will be better anyways, I saw a brand new 02 srx track in the classifeds a while back for cheap, those are light(good topend speeds)
It's not leaking, but I think I'll get it welded for the added measure when/should this happen again.mrviper700 said:As for the exchanger if it isnt leaking dont sweat it, if its leaking they can be tig welded right in the sled
Hadn't thought about it, but that makes sense. I'll be sure to get it preped properly before I get it done. Thanks.mrviper700 said:I am sure youd know to completely drain all the coolant

I have the hacksaw on my '01 srx and LOVE that track, hooks up very well and has great top speed, and is cheap to boot!
yeah i would like to see that video ... i didnt see that pass :-(( hope no one is dead
For those looking for the carnage, BenderSRX posted the video here: Footage from Buckum's Bay Radar runs. Track blewoff Apex @ 165MPH
