2001 SXR what RPM?

Wife's 700 SXR engages at 4200 and at WOT is turning 9000 RPM. Is that too high? Anyone know the stock specs of the 700 motor? Is there a place where dyno sheets are posted?

It's a 2001 sled.

Don't know what's still stock on the machine. Wanted to see what this engine's sweet spot is before looking at the parts and trying to figure out what to do with them.

The sled actually has close to the same top speed as my SRX when it was stock. Not bad if ya ask me. It's just weak getting there. It seems weak from about 30-100 on the speedo.

If 8500 is ideal for the single piped non power valve 700, then I guess I have to wrap the secondary tighter if I want to keep the engagement RPM the same. Just as long as I can still reach top of the primary at top speed. Maybe add 10 degrees?

If I lighten the weights, I would have to put in a weaker spring too because I want the engagement RPM to stay right where it is. Feels great on takeoff and is smooth up to 30.

Nice tight trail sled once I fix the darting.

Its not a good idea to tune rpms with the clutch wrap.. The rpms should be tuned in the primary and the secondary should be used to tune the shifting. You need more tip weight to bring down the rpm. If it kills your engagement you need a different spring with higher preload or add some washers to the primary. If you wrap it much more than 60 degrees it starts getting pretty inefficient. A higher finish angle should drop the rpms too.

If I put in more weight, don't I have to increase the primary spring to keep my engagement the same?

Anyone know the stock weights on this primary? I don't want to go too much higher, just enough to get back to 8500.

Where does everyone get all this good info? Stock HP charts, weights, spring color codes? I'd love to look at these but don't know where. I wanna grow up to be a sled head. It's fun messing with these.

Looks like 8dn20 weights loaded with 17.2/13.9 mm rivets w/ YWY primary spring. If you put in tip weight it should not effect the engagement that much.

That is not for this sled. The SX 700R uses 8DF weights as stock. Change the outter rivet to a 4.5 gram and that will be pretty close. Use a 51/45 or very similar helix with a green spring at 60 and you will have a happy setup with stock weights.

And tip weight will not really affect your engagement at all because the weight is well tucked under the roller at that point, so the tip does virtually nothing at engagement. Also make sure when you are tuning you are running a new belt with clean clutches and a clean belt. Rough them up good with a scoth brite pad and then clean with hot soapy water and dry all parts with compressed air.

That's right, if you try to get your secondary more than 60 degrees, you may get more backshift but you will loose acceleration and speed. Your sled will rev too much for nothing.
