I have a 98 vmax 600 put in a new engine and its using a lot of oil. I think I have the pump set up right but not sure. Anybody tell me for sure where the marks should be. I also heard that if the oil pump is going bad or is bad it will stay stuck wide open is this true?? I went about 95 miles and used about 3/4 of a totally full oil resevoir.

That's a ton of oil. The pump is either set wrong or is shot. There have been quite a few oil pump posts here in the past few weeks. Look around this forum and you should fine the info your looking for.
The short answer is the cable needs to have a 21mm gap and your marks should be lining up on the pump.

Yup sounds llike the pump is shot. Also make sure that your throttle (thumb lever gap) is set at 1-2mm of play. When mine went I got 110 miles to a whole tank of oil.
