Last weekend my friends and I did allot of lake running (on hard packed trails).
I have a 98 700 XTC-P. 22/40 gearing 1.25 ripsaw, weigh about 205, 70 deg wrap in secondary, yamaha belt and I know I was a bit low on the RPM's only running about 8100 to 8200.
I could only get a top speed of 145KPH. I think I should get a higher top speed.
Should I???

And if so how?
Thanks

My stock 700 reached 160 KPH on hard packed trails and 180 on the road but with the .92 track and 23/40. Normally this sled is faster at 60 degrees. Maybe you can change your clutch weights for lighter.

Had the same problem with my 97 700 sx last year. A local guy set me up with a fixed sheave off a viper for the primary, 4.5 in both holes, a 49/43 helix, with factory spring wound at 60 and dropped one tooth
Im running a 1" hacksaw no studs with 4" carbides and ski shimmed and also ski savers
Have no problem hitting 170 km's on the dream meter on hardpacked groomed trails
tach is at 8300 on the long pull I weigh 190 fully geared up
my 2 cents
