Break in period on SRX

I just put a new piston and cylinder in my sled because it overheated on my a couple weeks ago, is there anything I should do to properly break it in?
My buddy said to dump 1 L of oil in the gas tank to break in the new piston and cylinder, does that sound right to you guys?
 
no, dont dump any oil in the with the gas. Just run it like you normally would, avoid long wide open blasts for more than a few seconds. Make sure to vary throttle position a lot so that the parts have a chance to polish themselves and break in at all possible engine frequencies.

What's the reason for no oil in the gas? Is it because it's only a cylinder/piston break in?

The reason I ask is because mine had the premix in the tank for break-in but I had a new crank, all new rings, and a new cylinder/piston. Was mine premixed due to more new parts?
 
If you add oil to the gas you are effectively leaning out the fuel/air mixture. On top of that, you are just adding more lubrication that is not needed and could make the break in period slightly longer. You want the rings to seat as past as possible and you want them to seat in normal riding conditions.
 
I always like going across the grain :),, you could put some in but not
much, people do it all the time(myself too)without issues of running lean
yamaha pumps are rich from the get go so believe me she's going to get
oil.

just do like holic said and vary the throttle and no long WOT pulls for
a few miles she'll be fine...
 
Yea, it's not going to lean it out so much that it'll burn down or anything infact it's far from it, I have just always liked breaking my top end in hard. First 50km or so ride it varying from 1/4 to 3/4 throttle, from then on ride it fairly hard on the gas at WOT but for not much longer than a few seconds and slowly let it back down and then rapidly bring it back up. It's just a personal preference of mine. You could add a litre if you wanted.

The only time i have ever had to add premix was when I took the oil lines off. I just added premix for the first tank until the lines primed themselves and got rid of all the air in them.

Again that's all personaly preference you could do it which ever way you feel comfortable with.
