I was doing some searching on here and found nothing but good news about these tracks :p . I want to put one of these tracks on my 2000 sxr 700. I do have studs in my track now. I ride in ny and pa.
I want good take off (lift skis off the ground) and good handling around corners.

I was wondering if it is better to run
1. ripsaw
2. ripsaw with studs (once they wear out you can replace the studs)
3. ice ripper

Thanks joe

For what your describing I'd say a studded ripsaw as the ice ripper is more about safety and not all out traction and holeshot.Iceripper is probably great if your just looking for some additional grip on icy corners and such. You'll need 8 tooth drivers to run a 1-1/4 track with studs.

Hhhmmmm?

So you think the ripsaw with the studs would be better all around? Also you don't think or you know the ripsaw/ice ripper won't fit without driver changes?

Yea I just tring to get my skis off the ground every once and a while for fun but I do want to get no spin and great traction to.

I also do not want to d all this work and find out " d** I should of listen to that guy".

thanks for the imput.

You still have studs above the normal lug height so you need tunnel protectors. I have a non studded ripsaw on my sled and it would'nt fit with the tunnel protectors in.You need to retain your protectors and gain more clearance with the 8 tooth drivers. Some have done it with stock 9 tooth drivers and just trimmed the track lugs around the drivers, but I personally think its risky and yamaha does'nt recommend it.I think you will want studs because it will give you much more positive bite with studs mounted in the belt of the track with weight of the sled bearing down on it.Lug studs are just that and flex alot more with lugs.Definetely help, but not what your after as it sounds like you want more than just a little traction for icy corners. You could get a pre-drilled ripsaw and install 144 studs in those holes, should be about perfect for you and I believe those tracks, the pre drilled that is even carry a warranty with studs.Thats the only way you'll ever get a warranty with studs.Or you could get a 9830 predator 1" track and then you would'nt have to change your drivers and you could just install it and go, this setup is very popular on here with guys as well.

Woops I said trim around the drivers, it should have said trim around the tunnel protectors.Rich from rich motorsports or Matt or Bruce from cb performance could set you up and help answer your questions as well and they both have excellent prices on this stuff.

The Ice Ripper is a great track, and a good, cost effective solution for more traction on a viper S - you don't need to run any tunnel protection with them, but you need to keep the track tight enough so it doesn't slap the tunnel. You'll see a couple of sled lengths off the launch, but as far as skis in the air, that should be able to be accomplished in part by playing with your transfer rods.

Have an 00 SXR700, just went from stock track with 192 studs to 1.25 ripsaw, took out tunnel prot and frt exc prot, tight up front, I run it loose (hangs 3/4-1"), I love it!! A bit of slide on the iced corners, but I like it that way, grips amazingly well for no studs on all but low snow/glare ice.

Stock track w/studs for sale.

thanks for the help...

I am going with a 136" ripsaw 1.25 with studs in the center.

I hope I am mking a good choice here. Next year I will find out.

Also this will be mounted on an expert x.

Now I can get r done... :WayCool:
