Viper to SRX CDI Conversion

I have my 01 SRX CDI in my hand with no response(Email or PM) from BTV and its been a while. Does anyone else on here know how to rig this deal up???? Cause I know its not plug and go cause the gauge pod dosent work while running, I know there is some wiring involved to trick the gauge to come on. Any help is MUCH appreciated.
 
been out for a while working on apt. family stuff. kinda back.
ill find the resistor size today and post a better picture of the cdi plug.
 
well, no pictures but,

you need a .300ohm resistor.

if you look at your cdi box plug in on the sled, you will see on the corner of one plug an unused hole, it is below a yellow blue wire and next to a yellow white wire. right on the corner. this is where you wire the resistor to. then ground the resistor on the other end. this makes the sled think it is warmed up and wont try to flash the light through the cdi box. it will let the temp light work that is hooked to the guage.

if your using this with with or without stock pipes you will need to change your jetting, and clutching.
 
Ok thanks that helps alot, also do you have any pics of your flange extensions, im thinking of just cutting my stock manifold and welting indifidual plates to each heating them up and pulling the oval to round, if this makes any sense.
Is the length of the extensions important or do i jus tmake them so the pipes fit??

I'm not a electrician where do I get this resistor from?Also I'm piped and pretty much dialed in clutch wise to this setup, What difference in jetting would I need on slp's? Thanx ahead of time because I know you have been working on this along time.(SRX JETTING???)
 
your jetting will be leaner, your power will be a little less. srx spec has run this setup and may have some jetting specs for it to start you out. i never used the box on my slp pipes, only have used viper and srx box on srx pipes with both length manifolds, three different cc heads, viper and srx cylinders. thats all

you need to keep the distance the same. if you look at the length of a viper cylinder compared to the srx cylinder you will be able to measure the difference, its about 1 1/2 at the top and 3/4 at the bottom. not sure if i can get them they were on another old puter. most everything was on riches old site, yamiinfo.com or net.

srx cdi reads what the temp sending unit is doing. the viper just uses it for an idiot light.

you need to use it for both so you will need to T off the blue/red wire from sending unit and run it to the cdi box where it is normally located on an srx. i have a picture of this here.

if any here need a wire with the correct end to insert into there cdi box plug give me your address and i will send you a wire. i have destroyed a harnes so i could have this wire. i now have about 20 more of them.

i tried to just hook up this wire which stops the cdi box from setting a temp code but then this causes the brain in the guage to cause a temp code. the fix was to saticfy both.

so far so good. ran it on the stand for a few minutes and there are no codes now.

cant waite for ice so i can jet this thing.

here is where you can spice the wire in. it will hide in the factory conduit if you splice it back about two inches.

Spec what would be a good starting point for jetting? I have SLP's spec in right now for sea level riding with (165mains,47.5pilots,3.5clip position).
 
Thanx,reimond and betheviper I do remember that post in the past from betheviper and the work he put in on it. I was looking for a setup for my viper for fuel mileage because my son is graduating from a 88 phazer to the viper and I don't want to return it back to stock for fuel mileage.Also the phazer is still running strong and that will be my nephews first snowmobile to ride with us(birthday present!!!!)I cant believe I'm getting rid of it but I guess I'm not because it will always be there.
 
If your just grounding the wire that you run off the CDI, then what is top image that SRXSPEC posted supposed to show me????? Nothing was mentioned about splicing into the temp sensor wiring, but it looks like something was spliced into on the temp sensor.
 
can you just ground the wire to the frame, is the image just you splicing into the ground on the temp sensor.

also stock viper comes with 156.. jets and srx is 148..., 148..., 150,

how come the srx jets are so small?
why do you have to get a larger jet for the viper to run srx pipes?

If I get my domes machined so they are all 24cc, would 157.5 157.5 158 mains and 42.5 pilots sound right?

the picture above was of my sled. i had wired it so i could either run the temp gauge to the box or to the guage and install the resistor in the remaining plug. i cut a temp sending unit apart and sodered the resistor to it, then covered it with silicone so it would just plug in to the plug like the sending unit. after testing different things, i found it didnt matter which one was bypassed, the guage would show an overheat(i made a plug to simulate the ohms of a temp sender that was too hot). why i said to just run the wire through the resistor and then just to ground is to save you all the trouble i already went through.

vipers run bigger jets because they are vented to the air box. srxes vent under the motor. this effects mid range and top end jetting. the end result is the same. just two different ways to get there. just chose one and use it. as for piped vipers using large jets(165) this is because they are using gas as a coolant for the piston

if you run 24cc domes on viper cylinders, you are a little light on the compression for srx pipes. 24cc domes will give you about 120lbs with stock gasket. this is what piped vipers run so they run cooler. your pipes/cdi will run cooler anyway. you can go with 23cc safe enough. when i had viper cylinders with srx heads cut to mrvipers specs i could run 150lb on super with 150 mains, 40 pilots. this was with srx/outside venting. i believe these heads were 22cc,(from memory) these heads were cut to 17deg squish band with .055 clearance. stock angle is 11degree and you cant run as much compression.



srx pipes effect the low speed on these sleds ALOT. with either viper or srx cdi box in the sled i could run 40 pilots. the pipe is the effect on this. most aftermarket pipes run 47.5 or larger. this is where your sled runs most of the time on the trail. pilots to needles. this is where the milage is.

if i was to do it again i would use the folloing
98 srx cylinders(ported)
viper head, redomed to 22cc 17deg band
grounded temp wire
1 98 pipe and 2 99up pipes
stock muffler
srx muffler mounts and heat deflector

the one 98 pipe for clearence and the two 99 pipes for the adjustability to help the fit.
things get tight on the stock muffler.

I should be able to toss the pipes in tommorrow night, for giggles what would I have to do to run the stock head. sense im not goin gto have time to get it machined.

would just be fooling around in a field.

I may try stock jets or 158 mains across and 42 pilots if i can get some. If i cant get jets tommorrow , would stock jetting be ok, sense the temp outside is gona be warm, could ride without a jacket warm. around 3-7degrees celcius.

would just be fooling around in a field. probly, you have two 22cc and one 24cc as i remember. you should be fine for just messing around.

If i cant get jets tommorrow , would stock jetting be ok, sense the temp outside is gona be warm, could ride without a jacket warm. around 3-7degrees celcius. if your using the stock muffler, use 40 pilots, you can vent to the box, stock jetting will be a start, watch your piston wash(buy a bendalight do some research on reading piston wash. dont watch your plugs)

yes, either. if you ground to frame, ground to the handlebar frame.
