My friends 04 viper is giving him problems.The collar that holds the jackshaft bearing on the clutchside, started separating. This is the second one he replaced. What could be causing this or have anyone else had this happen?Take a look, any help would be appreciated Thanks!!

Make sure both the collars are on the same side of the tunnel/ mount. also check the bearing on the opposite side in the chaincase. I replaced the jackshaft bearing 3 times before I realized I had it together wrong. 4 bearings and a jackshaft later I got it right. It turned out to be a dumb mistake on my part. also, put the chaincase and gears back together before you put the set screws in. this will assure you the bearing fins "home" on the jackshaft.
 
i had the same think happen to my 99 srx700. not sure why, but when my local yamaha dealer put it back together i dont think he put it back together with it on one side of the tunnel. i will double check.
 
I had a dealer put mine together wrong and I just kept on putting it back together the way it came apart!! Buy the service manual. Both collars should be on the inside of the tunnel/mount holding the bearing.
 
Likely one of the following . . .
  1. Bearing holder (what you called collar) not installed correctly. See the notes above as this was already discussed. Yes, both halves go together with nothing between them except the bearing.
  2. Side load on the bearing due to tightening the set screws before completing chaincase and brake installation.
  3. Jackshaft is bent, this can happen if a bearing wears out and gets real hot.
