I was riding yesterday and several times as I was going through deeper snow my track would skip. At first I thought it was the chaincase but realized this was not a metal on metal sound. My track is adjusted properly with a little less than 2 inches of sag when you lift it of the ground. Any answers.
Are you sure your not digging down to the dirt? Mine does the same thing but I think its just digging so hard it's hitting dirt and getting traction.
You need to tighten your track if you do not want it to ratchet as much. The Yamaha spec is measured with 18 lbs. of pressure pulling down on the track at the mid point. You may find that you actually have 3 inches or so of sag in this case.

an inch to inch and a half of sag (static) no pressure. tighten that track man.

Ding is right, your track is way too loose. The yamaha spec is actually .98-1.18" at 22 lbs pull at midpoint on the track. You may find that to be a little too tight, but you definately need to keep tightening the track from where you have it now until the ratcheting goes away.

I tightened it, went for a short test ride and no skipping.
