I'd like to mount a GPS (Explorist 600) to the handle bars and would like to know if I should build a regulator (<$20) or buy a used/new one. I don't have electric start. So I don't think there'd be a 12V voltage regulator on the sled.

Or, if anyone has some good ideas on GPS installs, I'm all ears :)

Thanks.

There is a pretty clean 12 volt dc source. On the single headlight models by the regulator. Its actually the charging circuit for the optional battery. I'm not sure if its clean enough for electronics though.

I know my 96 has clean 12V. I run my gps off of it. My gps can run from sometihng like 9 to 14V and I kept my meter on the line to see how it reacted to the throttle and it didn't move much from 12.4V.
