Ok guys , My 2000 srx rear skid will not hold together. I have put the viper shocks,rods and straps in and did bethevipers skid fix also. I have now broke the front shaft that the limiter straps and shock mount to(on the bottom) 3 times in about 2 months. The brackets that are on it and mount to the rails keep breaking off then it shears the bolt off in the shaft. Anyone else breaking these shafts? I have basically had to replace every main component in the skid this year. Will this skid ever be able to stand up to hard trail riding or am i wasting my money trying to get it straightened out? I love my srx but am very frustrated with the skid.
 
Get an expert x!

Just take out the skid and set it aside. Install an expert x and forget about it. I'm seriously thinking about replacing mine as well and I will put in an expert x. Just trying to figure out if I should get another sled since my viper has over 6000 miles.
 
I have the same problem with proactions.I ride extremely hard and I busted just about everything on them suspension's more then once.Put a doo,or plaris,or cat skid in.It will ride awesome and be more reliable.
 
I never had a problem with my 02 viper besides needing shock update and I personally think she rides fine setup for your weight. Always wanted a expert x in it but didn't want to spend the dough, I ride with revs and f's in newyork so I'm beating on it in the rough in tug hill area. Short story bought a rx-1 with an expert x never looked at the setup and was thinking I would have a great ride needless to say second ride with my son I was coming across a field and decided to see what this thing ran like hit a major dropoff and it felt like I just rammed a sledgehammer up my a$#@ I suffered for two weeks and I told my wife that my viper would never have done that to me, there has to be something wrong with (shocks, setup ect.) recieved the instruction for the suspension setup and the thing was so far different in many ways with the setup spring adjustment, Shock angle, softnes adjustment readjusted it right and the thing is like gold now. M point is something has to be setup or wornout because the beating that thing gave me something was bound to break and at the time I was praising and wishing I was on my viper at the time.(but not now, no parts were needed in my case to fix my suspension problem)I hope you figure it out, I guess my point might be setup is everything. My viper is set close to my book with updated shocks. Hope you figure it out.
 
Well the skid rides nice and the w-arm is also new. Nothing is set-up in this skid..it is just breaking everything in site when i start pushing it to the limit. Pro116...Which brand of skid is the best and easiest to retrofit into my sled?
 
well I like the c&a's on the srx's I haven't tried the sly dogs but everyone like them too.I
I hear ya on the skid I have owned probaly 5 different proaction sleds and everyone of them don't hold up if you ride extrememly hard and jump alot.

He said what kind of SKID clown! lol j/k Ryan. Yea i had the exact same problem with one of my proactions, i just kept putting parts in it and it just kept breaking them. Only one of the many proaction skids i have had though have done this. It seems like when that lower center shock mount/shaft breaks once that it just keeps on breaking. Maybe because it tears up the aluminum on the rails a little bit making a loose fit? Maybe you could try welding over their welds where the tabs meet the shaft, their factory welds look real chincy. I dont know, but i got tired of looking for answers and tore the thing apart.
 
Has anyone tried putting a sc10 #3 in a yammy? I have one i can get my hands on but not sure what a chore it will be to retrofit it in there.
 
Yes people have done it. You just need a skidoo that came with that suspension so you can make exact measurements from driveshaft to mount locations.
 
Is it possible you installed the w/arm in upside down? shock mount should be pointing up toward the tunnel not down to the ground.
 
That would make such a difference in height that i highly doubt you would even get the suspension in if the w-arm was upside down.
 
its easier to do then you might think. unfortunatly i know from experience. and you will do damage to the lower shaft that the shock mounts to. just somethingto double check. take a peek under the sled & make sure the shock is mounted to the topside of the upper shaft & the limiter straps are also on thetopside of the w/arm.
 
I would check and make sure the shock on the front is mounted correctly first. try putting the shock extensions on the front. The way you have it now, you have a long travel rear and a short travel front. Had alot of issues a couple years ago when I used Viper shocks in an SRX. It was EATING track clips (only had 2 left after 400 miles on a brand new track) and Hyfax and I broke the W-arm a couple times. Hauck sells brackets to raise the front or Ohlin sells shock extension too I believe. Just a thought, hope this helps. It is not possible for the shock to be "too long". there are 2 length proaction shocks, short and long travel.

so why is Yamaha so weak on their suspensions.It doesn't make sense that they make a good sled,but with a less then perfect skid.What gives with that?

You can make the yamaha skid strong. If you reinforce it in the right places.
In 97 my xtc600 lasted 200 miles. (First year of the proaction chassis)
90mph thru 4 foot wash board. The w arm broke, then the rear shock broke in half, then the track got cut in half. Parts and labour was about $3000

At 450 miles I did it again, this time the track was ok, but I broke 1 slide rail and bent the other. Yamaha said they would not fix it again because it was being abused. Nice EH? when I got it home I took the skid out and beefed her up. 10lbs of steel later it was indestructable. I have put over 20,000 miles on my 97xtc 98sx700 and my 99srx700 combined and have never bent or broke another w-arm. We run pretty hard most of the time, a 3 day weekend is usually 800-900 miles. The noaction chassis is fading away I'm having a hard time keeping up with the new machines in the ruff stuff.

wow 3000$ sounds to me like, buy a used sled and use either your sled or the new one for parts for that price. damn... complete used skid goes for 4- 500$ around here.

All suspension parts are in correctly. Maybe your right about the front being low though. I did notice i had to run my track alot looser so i didnt burn up my hyfax. But will have to wait for a while cause i`m done messing with it for now. I`ve put way too much time and money into that skid for a while...lol
 
I'm sorry for you man! It's hard when you try to make something better and it becomes a pain in the butt.Maybe you should give up and put the doo in if it's cheap enough.Holic and 116 will try to help you thru it they seem to know alot of people who might have done this?I have a hard time giving up on things but I also have spare sleds and if you don't the seasons to short to be messing around with your problem.Good luck to you.
