Hi all, lost a piston in the wifes 98 srx 700 last night . wondering if someone can tell me the difference between a 98 piston and a 01 piston . I have mesured and weighted the two but can't see any difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated,i have a spare 01 piston and rings and races are saturday.

FUNNY YOU SAY THERE IS NO DEFFERENCE IN WEIGHT. THAT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A INPROVEMENT IN THE 2000 TECH MANUAL. I WOULD GO ON YAMAHA PARTS FISHE AND CHECK NUMBERS AS FARR AS RINGS, WRIST PINS, BEARING!! THE 2000 AND UP WERE HEAT COATED ALSO. WHO KNOWS FOR SHURE. 3:16 (yammie tony)

the pistons are less than a gram in difference , part no's same on rings, pin and brg and the 98 pistons are coated also if your talking about around the ring lands and the certer of the dome.

thanks for your input 3:16. I guess it will get the 01 piston tonight unless someone else can give me a good reason not to. Almost forgot, does any one know how many cc's smaller the 01 heads are compared to the 98 heads 98=26cc's if i remember correctly ?

The new pistons are supposed to be factory coated if I remember right.
