2004 VIPER S With STUDS

I have a 2004 Viper S. I have been running 192 studs for awhile with front heat exchanger protectors. Recently it took the front heat exchanger out. After talking to some people (CPR, Bender) they told me i cant run studs in this sled because it has the 1.25 track in it. They said i would have to change to a 8 tooth driver. I am having a hard time believing that you cant run studs in this thing. Anyone know about this?
 
Did any of the studs hit your heat exchangers or tunnel? Thats the biggest concern.
Did you clip the track lugs where they contact the protectors?
Im running studs In my Viper S with 1 1/4 ripsaw that clear my lugs by 1/4" with the 9 tooth drivers and havent had any problems. I clipped about an 1/8-3/16" off the track lugs where they contact the protectors and havent had any problems.The more you clip off the lug, the closer the stud gets to your protector.A few others have done the same.
Run them at your own risk, but so far so good for me!
 
I did not clip anything off the protectors when i put them in. I rode it for 800 miles with no problems. then one day the picked ATE the heat exchanger. The studs are 1.038 woodys studs.
 
Are you sure they are'nt 1.375's? It is true that you can't run studs with the 1.25 track. Your best bet is to sell the track and buy a 1" or go to 8 tooth and re-gear. I like a 1" track so my decision would be easy but you may feel differently

There is not enough room between the 9 tooth driver and the protector for a 1 1/4" lug.So most people clip the track lug , just where it contacts the protector. Some have installed the protector and just let the track rub the protector untill it wears a groove in the track.
Im with jminor, sounds like your running to long of a stud,1.375's . I dont believe woody's makes a 1.038.
Lay a straight edge across the lugs and see how much the stud clears the lug by. Anything more then 1/4" is probably to much.

Studded my S this winter after shaving the track to 1 inch , I did contact the rear exchanger just a bit, but i just bought some rear exchanger protectors so hopefully that wont happen again . Also had to snug up the track because i didnt have a clue how close i was getting to the front exchanger while riding , but so far so good .
 
Razor knife , patience and a handful of bandaids !
I didnt notice a difference after losing a quarter inch off the lugs while riding , but Definitly noticed the difference being studded , she hooks up now mister , no more wagging my tail while my buddies pull away !
 
Here we go again

This has been debated to death on here. Do a search and draw your own conclusion. Personally, I would not run 1 1/4 track in a proaction chasis unless I had 8 tooth drivers and good tunnel and heat exchanger protection.

OK thanks everyone for the help. If i switch to a 8 tooth driver does anyone know what gears i will have to run?
 
this is the risk you take when you run 1.25 with studs and 9 tooths. The proper way of doing it is 8 tooth drivers or run 1.25 with no studs and take the protectors out and you can keep the 9 tooth drivers. Picks have left a bad taste in my mouth a couple times blowing out heat exchangers and I have seen motors melt down because of picks munching the heat exchanger and draining the coolant
