Getting my SRX ready for storage and noticed the tach performing erratically and then not at all, also noticed the lights were no longer working. I swapped out the tach with one from a 01 SXR 700 and the results were the same. ? is if the lighting coil in the stator responsible for the operation of the tach as well as the lights. I'll have to check, but assume the lighting coil is a replaceable part. Not sure my CDI is good, either. Someone on this website told me the newer ones were better than the 98, but I see the 01 and 02 SRX CDI's are different, is that correct? If it is not the lighting coil, can you point me where else to look? Thanks Ron

Check out the wiring harness that goes under the motor, sounds like it may have rubbed thru and is grounding out.

Do a search on wiring harness, you will be reading for a month. This is by far most likely your problem.

Thanks for the response, I did check the lighting coil resistance, supposed to be something like 3 ohms, the multimeter I have is a cheap one, and don't think it's sensitive to read something this small. So I will pull the engine, belly needs a thorough cleaning anyway. No big rush, as it was 73 in NWLP this afternoon, and unlikely we will see action until next December. Ron
