personally, I would weld a BUNG to the tube and screw a grease fitting WITH A BALL VALVE into the bung!!! That way, I would KEEP the grease in the tube and doing its job!!! Yamaha engineers aren't really that smart,,,now are they?????

theblues said:The factory welded these in, cause the wall of the tub was thin & if it was threaded in it would rub on the inner shaft...they are not supposed to ooze out...& caps, most likely would pop off under pressure...
Fix...(next time you have the skid out) is to grind off the original zerk(s), weld a nut with the proper size zerk thread & length, add new zerk(s), touch up with paint & your read to go...better than new...
^^^That is exactly what he said to do, weld a nut on the tube and then thread in a zerk with a ball in it.
I dont know if a nut is going to work Maybe a piece of bar stock with a hole drilled int o it!!!

A nut will work, i've done it,just need to find the right size that's all...
I was thinking that they were ALL NPT (national pipe taper) threads.. I looked in my metric grease fitting assortment and seen 6X1 and 8X1 thread sizes!!!! I learned something NEW today!!!! Thanks DAMAN!!!
