thinking of either bigboring or maybe port and polishing my 01 srx. Not sure what i decided on yet but i am definately gonna look into it. What do you guys think about the bigbore? How much more hp and is it worth the reliability? What is involved in bigboring a srx? do i need extra cooling for a bigbore? Give me your opinions on the two.thanks.

I've heard many happy customers that have sent thier motors to (Don) Mr.Viper for a port and polish job and haven't been happier with the power gains they recieved. I would think it would be more reliable and you'd get a nice gain. I myself haven't done either but just going by the feed on the great ty site.I'm sure other guys will give you some good info.

i would say a port and polish is better because you dont have to deal with weisco's

The newer wiseco's are nice actually. There are no issues with them. I have pretty well run it all. Porting your motor is the best bang for your buck. The big bores work better, but are alot more expensive. I own a Hauck bigbore, and I had no reliability issues with it, but I keep an eye on things with my Avenger III, and I jet for the day. If you are going to buy a bigbore, go Hauck or CPR.
As for cooling, you don't need extra cooling. The motor produces an honest 160-165 hp with a Hauck bigbore, probably about 10 more than a ported motor. If you go with a bigbore, try to find a used bigbore if you can. It'll save you alot of cash, and you can keep your stock topend.

mrviper has a bigbore for sale his is the best in the market I have delt with hauck and cpr.
big bore
I have over 3000 miles and not even a fouled plug on my Mega Power Big Bore. The Torque is awsome on these bigbores. I have mega power heads and have never had a heating issue. I also have the Bender Big Bore pipes. I am going to tear it down this summer and check things out. This will be the first tear down since installing the Big Bore over 3000 miles ago.

I like the old saying "no replacement for displacement" however the best bang for the buck is definetly a good port job. If I were to port my SRX the first person i'd call is mrviper700. He knows what he's talking about, and I would imagine he has great follow up on technical questions... hell he answers all my questions and I don't even run his stuff!!!
I am not sure... but I think he does bigbores too.

I've had two big bores from the "Other Guys" - this past winter I took mine to Don (MrViper) to have him go through it because I wasn't pleased with the performance - I didn't get it picked up until March when the snow was almost gone and it was crowding 50 degrees out - tested it out in a long bean field accross the road from his house and let me tell you this thing rocks!! - ski's never touched the gound in 1000 + feet - 110 + in 1000' - this was in 50 degree weather!! - I can't wait to run it in winter temps - season was over before I got to ride it anymore, but I am confident it is stonger than it ever was before - Don's work is very meticulous and painstaking - his knowledge of these sleds are second to none in my opinion - you would not go wrong with any big bore that he has set up - I could tell you some horror stories about my experiences with these kits but I won't do it on an open forum - if you want maximum power, go with the big bore - if you want the best quality for your money, call Don - my 2 cents!!

Don't be worried about running a big bore. If you keep an eye on things, they work just fine. Sure, they are more tempermental to jetting changes, and if they run Wiseco's you have to warm up the sled longer on startup because the pistons do expand quicker than the factory ones, so there is a greater chance for cold seizure. I ran a Hauck, and never had an issue. The only thing I don't like about the Hauck kits is the porting in them. It is very minimal..........too minimal for me. There is alot more power to be had out of the cylinders, and they should be ported properly. They're ported too safe.
There is no doubt that Don's (MrViper's) bigbore is done right, and will probably result in more power than the Hauck kit. His porting is second to none.

I would have to say Wiseco's still have issues. I had one on my 1000 that the end gap pin came out and broke the top ring. Maybe it was just a fluke I hope.

I've had that happen on OEM pistons as well. I prefer the OEM pistons, i'm simply saying that the new Wiseco's are pretty good.

TWO THINGS, I WOULD LOVE TOO TRY A PORTED SET OF SRX CYLINDERS ON MY 00. ALSO HOW MUCH FASTER IS A PORTED SRX THAN A GOOD RUNNING 00-01-02. IN THE REAL WORLD. !! 3:16 (yammie tony)
