SRX Track Direction

I just purchased a 2001 SRX with a new 1 inch Camoplast track. The track was installed backwards for what the owner called better traction. Is there an advantage of running the track in a reverse direction or should I change it back?

I have never done that, but it supposedely gives you more traction with less braking.The factories always set them up for more braking.

if you do lots of drag racing you could probably leave it, and just be very careful when you want to stop.....I personally would change it back, but it's up to you

Just curious which 1" track is it?

I'm not sure what track it is--I pick the sled up next weekend. However, I believe it's the less aggressive one.

If its studded then i would leave it

yes- very good track. one of the most popular choices for a 1" track. if it were me, i would stud it and leave it.

The 9830 just from profile analysis is not near as "directional" as most of the other 1" tracks from camo such as the hacksaw and 1" ripsaw. Probably wont see a big difference at all by running it backwards.

Yea I ran my 9818 in the correct direction cause after looking at the track for a while I noticed there wasnt a HUGE difference in tread design from forward to backwards.

Just so everyone knows the 9818(1.25in.) and 9830(1in.) have the same tread design and clipped every 3rd window

I have the 9837 (fully clipped version) on 3 of my sleds. I don't see a really big difference in the lug profile from changing the direction.....the lugs alternate between the steep and flatter angled lug faces. But Camoplast does indicate a direction on the track so I'd just contact them and ask them.

I appreciate all of you responses. After reading these posts, talking to old snowmobile friends, and contacting Camoplast Technical reps, I'm going to turn the track around. I also have the Summer to do it, so it will also give me a chance to completely checkout the undercarriage also.

One more question folks--The Camoplast 9830 has a 1 inch profile and the original owner trimmed the track to clear the heat exchanger guards. If I do not run studs, do I need to run the guards or can I remove them for additional clearance? Thanks once again for all your great responses.

Remove them. They serve no purpose if you are not running studs.

The 1" track will clear just fine.The protectors aren't hurting anything.I would keep them in incase you switch your mind and want to stud the sled in the future.
