Viper Shock Brackets

sxviper thanks for but i am not ready yet to do this yet. if someone has some grab them if you are going to try this. when i do do this i will take lots of pics so others can see. spec if you do this again in the near future could you take pics. also did you have to take the plastic off? i was just looking at my sled and it looks as though you you really dont need to. do you know the length of a pair of fox shocks with the remotes and clickers that came on the cat f series sleds. thats what i am want ot put on.

i used sx style brackets on my viper.

i did this so i could try some srx clicker ohlins on the front of my viper, mostly a looks thing and to keep it low. run them not quite a season and one side of my bulk head cracked where the bolt went in. there is very little material where you need to drill and tap. may not do it to all but just a warning

if you want to widen your mount hole and use longer shocks then the brackets should be connected to each other with a cros bar so you dont break the cast ends from twist and extra leverage that an extenion would put on it.

are you trying to get more travel? handling?

if your going with longer shocks you may want to widen it out at the same time so it wont sit too high

hey scott, i was just toying with the idea of putting some fox clicker shocks on the front off a cat and seeing how hard it would be. we jump and hit the bumps pretty hard so i would be a little nervous based on what you said. We dont have them county trails around here.

Make damn sure they are really close to the same length. if you go longer, you need to widden your front end. I tried a set of really long race ohlins, and the bump steer was enough to start bending and breaking things. Maxdlx

Thanks max, that is good to know, i think the f series fox shocks are only an 1" longer but look longer because they have less set in then yamaha does. i may be wrong but at quick look that is what it looked like.

When you get them on run them through there stroke without the springs on them. Keep an eye on how much you ski tips move in and out during the stroke. I only raised my front by about 3 inches, and had over 4.5 inches of bump steer. It will mess things up fast. If I would have went to a 44 or 45 inch wide front from CB I would have been fine. You should also know that a 1 inch increase in shock length wil add 2 inches of travel to yor suspension. That is yamaha's geometry calc. for the viper. So that being said simply bolting on any other shock bracket will effect the bottom out point of your shock vs. your bulkhead, if you go with a longer shock not only do you have to change the hieght of the upper shock location in most cases you would have to change the lower as well. you dont want to bottom out the shock to much befor the bottom of the bulkhead, thats what will tare the upper shock mounts off the bulkhead or crack it as the other gentlemen was saying. If you bottom out the bulkhead to soon you will buckle the frame midway back. The best bet is to Fab your own with the shock that you want to use. You will need to do a little trial an error on the bracket. I would suggest making them big enough to drill three or four hole in them so you can move the shock up,down in and out to find the sweet spot where the shock would hit the bump stop on the shaft and you would still have about a half inch befor the bulkhead hits. most bump stops a desined to compress half of the total height of it. When you get the right location simply copy the bracket to another peice on metal and only put the one hole in it and your done.

I have a set of the stock sx brakets (MAYBE 2) Laying around somewhere. Anyone want them? Maxdlx

Also have a viper head and gasket, stock boggie wheels, angled double and single backers, sway bars(sx and viper), viper rear bumper plastic, basically alot of crap that I don't need. Some is free, some is make offer. Maxdlx
