JUST SO I UNDERSTAND BECAUSE I AM DOING THIS. LAKE RACE PORTED 700 SRX CYLINDERS WILL GET YA 20 HORSE ? WHICH IS 165!!! DON WOW. THIS WITH STOCK CARBS AND PIPES. 3:16 (yammie tony)mrviper700 said:Couple things left out that are worth mentioning, the 835 also requires aftermarket pipes to make that power, thats another $1100.00 U.S., also larger carbs(38mm)they are not cheap engines by any means to build. A 780 can make darn near as much power as a 835 if your using stock pipes, will also run well with stock carbs. Using stock pipes becomes more of a issue with states like Wisconsin and now New York on the aftermarket pipe laws.
Another thing is to consider a 835 is a steel sleeved engine, they cant be run as lean and safely as a 780 can, the sleeves dont dissapaite heat as fast as a nickasiled cylinder does. This requires a richer mixture to help keep the piston crown cooler from the lack of the heat being pulled away from the sleeve. A good trail rideable, pumpgas, 780 will be a healthy 165+hp, and they are plenty reliable if set up and tuned in correctly. The biggest mistake made is lack of warm up time.
A ported 700 can be a very, very good runner, if done correctly a good solid 155+hp in trail form, lake race form can be just about same hp output as a 780 but the 780 makes more torque! Torque is what you feel when you pin the gas! That being said theres lots of options to go, it all depends on your wallet size as to the direction you go in. You wanna play you gotta pay, just like every other form of motorsports there is!
