Mountain Max Drop and Roll?

I am Installing a Ekholm tunnel (used) that came with a d+r chaincase set-up. MPI's tunnel and d+r are basically the same thing. Probably one of the cheapest ways to go before you get into the long/extended chain cases.

Tunnel

MPI doesn't sell a tunnel for MM's anymore. They were made by Ekholm who sold there company. The new Ekholm is in Canada. They sell tunnel only with no drop and roll chaincase.

Mpi

I did a drop & roll kit from MPI. Included the tunnel and chain case mods too. Nice well though out kit. Had no problems with it whatsoever. Mine was a on a viper but it would be exactly the same install on a MM. Here's a photo.

I have the chaincase un-installed right now. They took the factory case and made some adjustments to the brake mount and put an extended tube on the dipstick hole to compensate for the new angle. If you would like, I can take some pics and measurements for you as it looks like it would be very easy to copy. I also have the tunnel that I could measure so you could have the set-back measurements too. The chaincase stays the same length, it just drops down and tips rearward so both cross shafts are inside the tunnel.

Sucks about MPI's kit. I wish they did a better job keeping their website up to date. There were some rumblings on Snowest this past season about not having their trailing arm replacement tubes any longer, just the complete kits.

Chaincase

MPI will mod my chaincase for me but I would be on my own for cutting the new location holes for the shafts. I would need a template. So yah, if you could help me figure out where to drill I would be greatfull. Thanks

Heck, I can make you a template from the Ekholm tunnel I have. PM me your snail mail address and I will get a full-size template out to you sometime this week. I don't know how much MPI is going to charge you for the mods, but I don't think anyone who can weld aluminum would have any trouble at all taking care of it locally. Might save you some $, and mine is off right now so pics and measurements would be a snap!

I've done three of the ekholm/MPI tunnels and wouldn't own a MM or Mtn Viper without one. However, I talked to Van Amburg a while back and he said he makes a template for the D&R and/or a tunnel kit with the D&R. His price was a bit more than MPI (when they still sold the tunnels), but I would bet that his quality is a little better.
Whatever you decide to do, make sure that the shaft holes are exactly drilled across from each other so the shafts will be perfectly straight. I've heard of people getting them off just a tiny bit and having bearing problems.

both are 162" attack 20's in hillclimb position. Despite what most people say about that track, they work awesome on these two sleds. Blue tunnel has a hauck 780 Big Bore that's been re-ported by to make it really run good. Alum tunnel has a 780 bigbore similar to what CPR uses, ported by the same guy as the other. They are both really fun sleds! I've got alot of time and money into the aluminum tunneled one, then I picked up the other one really cheap, stripped it down and fixed it up right! I should sell one of them, but it sure is nice to have a spare that's just as fun as my main ride. Good luck on your project

Heck yeah...

nben,
Getting a template from you would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx

I will get it together for you. I just got back late late night from vacation, sorry about the delay!

ok, 156mm700 and bd-1, your templates are in the mail. Here are the links to pics and measurements I took tonight for the tunnel holes as well as the chaincase mods. Don't mind the dirt and grime, It's how I received it and haven't had time to clean it, let alone install. I am in the process of stripping the tunnel so I can polish it and weld up some holes that I will not be using (xtra lite skid for me). The powder coat comes off hard and it is wearing on my patience. I also don't think my reverse is going to fit in the drop portion of the tunnel. I will look into making the relief wider but I am afraid I am going to be in need of a standard chaincase cover. I haven't owned a sled without reverse in forever!

If you need any other pics or measurements just let me know. I can also take some pics when I start the build which I plan to start next week or the week after. I promised myself I would not wait until the end of summer to start this but time flies when the weather is warm!
