i feel stupid even asking but a guy I work with says he has a 94 Vmax 600 twin with an exhaust mounted turbo . i told him i didnt believe him because Ive never heard of a 2 stroke turbo . Any one ever heard of one or is this guy full of crap ?

They exist. I saw one at some local drags this winter. It had vicious lag issues but when it spooled up it moved out well. It just didn,t work well in 660.

aerocharger use to make them for yami twins and the vmax 4.
There are many mountain trubo companies out there for two strokes right now.
powderlitesd designed one for the srx but I don't think there was a big market.

they exist ya, but not alot of market when the cases and cranks come apart the way they do. Most guys looking for big power will go to a big displacement motor like from crankshop or iantomassi. Will make just as much jam as the turbo motor for same or less money, without reliability issues. Frankly I'm surprised more people don't use this alternative over a turbo 4-stroke as well. Difficult to go to a 1-off engine supplier and have something hand made for you compared to just ordering a bolt-on kit I guess.

A couple of weeks ago I went to a tar race 1/4 mile (ESTA) in Cisero NY. Billed as the largest tar race to date and had all the fastest guys from all over US and Canada. I was hoping to see Yamaha with turbo as well as NOS steal the show. It was not the case. A Polaris two stroke with a turbo and NOS won the show @ 163mph and 8.32ET. The next big show will be at Martin MI in a few weeks and I hope J. Simons will show with his 525hp turbo NOS Apex to defend. I'm afraid the turbo NOS two strokes haved now pulled ahead of Yamaha on the tar.

Mac that was 1200 cc fircat with a turbo. That was Glen Hall he worl's for D&D Racing.
He ran a 8.40 without the turbo already.

Nope - Jeff Cullen aboard the Abbotts powersports/PCS Performance 1500cc Polaris won the prosled shootout for the 3rd year in a row 8.34et @161mph. This was the open open class with power adder. Glenn Hall won the the battle of the twins. I think this is correct... I was drinking alot of beer that day.

yep you are correct glen did rin in the 8.30's during qualifying.
I didn't know the polaris had a turbo.i thought it was just nitrous.

YOU GUYS I AM SHURE REMEMER MAXXIMUM PERFORMANCE. WELL GREG AND LARRY MELLENBACHER HAD TURBOED 92 VMAX 4 THAT WAS AWSOME. RIGHT UP TO THE DAY THEY CLOSED THAT SLED SAT IN THEIR SHOP.!! 3:16 (yammie tony)

The PCS Polaris sled was not turbo'd. It was just a 1500cc motor on NOS. Turbo two strokes have come along ways, but they still will not last as long as a turbo 4-stroke.

the lag issues are handled by a 20hp shot of NOS on Glenn Halls firecat, this removes any lag as the engine instantly comes up to power and power the turbo.

"7.97" at martin is still the fastest 1/4 mile pass. RX-1 turbo !!! So how has the 2 strokes on NOS with huge displacements out performed that !!! And if you think a big bore 2 stroke is a better deal then a turbo 4 stroke your sure are missing somthing. In the trail class at NBSSR a 136" trail RX-1 turbo holds the record also.Just the Facts !!! ;)!

Does anyone know when the show is in Martin MI. never been to a race and would love to go. Thanks

Chadg

The 7.97 sled also was a rx1 bigbore and nos to spool the turbo so everything is about equall and they just started running that 1200firecat with the turbo 2 months ago they didn't evn have it on they just ran motor and nitrous only.It ran the first full pass 8.40's with a bad 60ft.There is alot of room left.I'm not cutting either down here there both impressive.I think some people just over look the 2strokes.

Jeff's sled has stock bore ! Weighes around 525 pounds ! Ran in the 170"s ! Glen Halls Sled is awsome too ,but only time will tell if it can match Big Blue !!! ;)!

Its true that 7.97 is Jeffs fastest pass but those numbers have not been backed up anywhere. Also true is the fact that Yamaha did not have anywhere else to run the last couple of years because the power adder class was not offered the last few seasons. Whenever Yamaha steps up and is much faster than the rest the rules change to exclude Yamaha. Remember P Hauck on the Vmax 4 on spray at the grass drags. Rule change - They made sure he couldnt come back with that machine. I hate to say this but its only a matter of time before the Turbo two stroke smokes the Yamaha. The tubos are just getting spooled up on the two strokes and once figured out unstopable.

Martin Michigan Sept. 22-23
