????'s on how to 136 a VIPER please!

Hey guy's, I just picked up an '03 Viper with 1440miles on her with a damaged track. I was thinking that if I need to replace the track anways why not strech it out a bit. I need to know how big of a job this is. Most important questions I have are as follows: 1) cost? 2) skill level req'd? 3) any special tools? 4) who should I order the parts from? (are some kits better than others)

It isn't that hard to do, if you take your time. I'd post on here for some used parts. There was a mtn viper ext on here a few days back. When you remove the old tunnel cap or anything that has rivets, get a good pair of side cutters and pull the hardened steel anval from the inside of the rivet out. it will save on drill bits. If you find a ext with a rear cooler in it that is a plus. You can make a mtn max cooler work with some simple tricks. As for rail extensions, I wouldn't use anything but tracks usa extensions. I'd never order a kit, as you can put together a better setup by yourself. the rail ext and the tunnel ext should be found for about 100 bucks each. So its not that expensive. There are plenty of us on here who have done it, so ask away. Maxdlx
 
#1, AIR RIVETER. I did my Viper using all Yamaha parts. Purchased a MSRX extension rails and both side coolers for $300. I will look for the link I had for rivets. Go to the main site, left side and look for the link for partsfinder. It's on the Yamaha link. Find the pics that show an exploded view of your chaincase and tunnel. Print it out. This was extremely helpful when I did mine. I had around 500 rivets used when I was all done. If youdon't get the lonber coolers, you'll have less. The only problem I had was the bumpercover/hosecover. Ended up using the MSRX one. 97-04 Venture parts will work. Consider sending your reear shocks out for a revalve and possible respring. I had the center shock revalved and bought a used Ohlins for the rear. Also put Ohlins on the front. Once this was all done and I rode it, vowed to NEVER own a 121 again. wantsnow make sure you get the hyfax extenders as well. You want your hyfax to run the full length of your extensions!!!

ViperDave, How on earth did you go threw 500 rivets doing the extention. Is that normal for this kind of project? I think that I may need to be spoon fed on how this is done. I may just stick with the 121. 500 hundred rivets must really start to add some weight to your sled no?
 
I think it sounds like all those rivets are for the running board coolers. He said something about longer coolers.
 
I used the moutain viper tunnel extension for mine but i had to do some mods for the rear cooler. The tunell is the sam as the srx so the msrx extension works well. A for the rail extensions I didn't use tracks usa ones(I live in Canada) but I did order some through my local yamaha dealer that have a tip up at the end so that i handel about the same on the groomed trail.
 
i have a couple 136 skids from ventures also have extension, bumper covers, 136 tracks, ripsaw and finger, 8tooth drivers
 
You are correct ViperXC. There is a CRAPLOAD of rivets when changing the side coolers AND adding a rear cooler. Bethviper is your man for parts. Looks like he has everything you need. Bought my rear Ohlins from him. Good price and fast shipping. I personally didn't like the idea of rail extension. I go 290 lbs. in my birthday suit, and as you can tell from my pics, tail landings are a regular occurence. If you're an average size guy, rail extensions are OK. I would still buy the whole skid, bumpercover etc. from Bethviper. My nickels worth LOL.
 
Here's mine. Used a MMax rear extension with a Mtn. Viper rear cooler which required no modification to the cooler - just some minor filing on the extension to enlarge the holes to slip the cooler tubes through. Used a MM bumper, bought a longer snowflap off Ebay and I slipped an M10 with Jac under it. Have since added a set of Simmons skis which are a big improvement over the stock ones. The engine stays cool except under the most extreme low snow conditions, but I'm running a 1.5" lug height Camoplast Intense track which probably doesn't help for cooling. Love the track, though - I'll run a set of scratchers this winter. Good luck with yours. Check here or over on Snowest if you want to go the used parts route.
