my srx on my last ride last winter a bolt in the rear suspension came lose
causing damage to rails, w-arm and shock . i love my srx but always thought the rear suspension left more to be desired i see the zx2
is a decent price, instead of fixing my pro-action should i forget about it and buy the zx2 . also if i make the purchase should i raise my front to match the increase in height in the rear. any info would be greatly appreciated
 
if your on a budget, i would say throw some long travel shocks in the sled and or a whole skid, flip the brackets on the front and your sled will be a much better ride for a couple hundred dollars. this of coarse would be no wheres near an m10 ride but your not putting 1200$ in a 3000$ sled either. all depends on budjet and how much you ride.
if your starting with a stock srx, anything is a great improvement.

Like BTV said, a lot depends on your budget. Having said that, it would be an awesome upgrade to your sled. I put an Expert in my SRX, and a wider long travel front end, and it's a whole different animal. Take it over my bud's Rev's any day of the week, or in any trail conditions.

That sounds like the perfect rig right there! An expert in the rear and wide long travel front end are the cat's a$$ on the srx's!
 
im not on a budget, i seriously considered trading my srx for an apex but theres something about a two-stroke tripple that gets my blood going so to speak.
im simply debating what are my best options i looked at m-10 but some claim
a loss of top speed. its the occasional wide open runs that gets me smiling.
if i can improve the trail ride and keep my top end speed than id be more than happy
my srx is completly stock, but on a perfect day the dream meter will reach 190 kph
175 in normal snow condition
 
the taller you go the slower you will be. m10s rob speed more from the tiny rear wheels than from anything else. install a 8in rear wheel kit. the other thing that kills them is the track tension. alot of times people adjust them the way they did there old skid. this makes the track really tight when your sitting on the sled.

Save your money,don't get an Apex. just put a good skid in your SRX and you will be happy,as for the triple sound nothing replaces it that is way I still have a couple.
 
M10's do rob speed, Expert's do not. I cannot speak for the new Boivin suspension, but I would highly suspect not. The nice thing about the Boivin is you can adjust the ride height and sit-in height, there is no need to drive around on a pogo stick. I bought mine used but had the shocks rebuilt and repaced all the bearings before the install. I have spent a lot of money on various sleds over the years, but this was probably the best money I ever spent. A lot of people do not take the time to read and understand the various suspension adjustments on the Expert, and therefore never get them dialed in for their riding style.

I agree. I love my Expert. I had one on my RTX last couple seasons and now have one on my 07 Attak GT. I'll NEVER part with that skid. If you're going aftermarket, get the expert.

BTW, I loved my old 2stroke also, but you have one of these four stokes, you probably wont go back.

thanks for the replies,that a nice pic SRXer. i havent ridden an expert suspension but ive read nothing but good reviews. I dont want to sound like im bashing the four strokes, ive seen all the new models from all makes but when i open my garage and look at my srx, i cant imagine parting with it.im pretty certain ill get an expert just uncertain about the zx2 it s all new.Also do just need to swap brackets like betheviper
recommends or do you need taller suspension like a viper.im located near moncton betheviper
 
im accross from woodstock.

I would go with a plastic expert over the aluminum one, they have been building that skid for many years. I was close to buying one but have an m10 and just couldnt bring myself to spend more money to save a few lbs over the m10.
m10s do not have to set up like a pogo stick, as with the expert it is all in how you set the skid up.
 
SRXer sounds like you have the set up im looking for, would you say the 44 " increase in width was noticeable. also whats the bergstorm triple points?
 
so far on my to buy list is a zx2
is it possible to have my front ohlins redone to have suspension comparable to
viper s (shock shaft replaced with longer ones)?
id like to know from SRXer if he thinks widening to 44" was worth it
what s the cost for doing so
 
You can get extensions for your ohlins and flip your front shock mounts to give you some height up front. That is all i have done on my sled and i think it works exceptional. Of course i would have to say the front end SRXer has would be night and day over what im running, i can have major ski lift but i guess im crazy in the way that i like ski lift.
 
It's hard to say on the front end, as I did all the mods at once during the summer, so I never rode it with the Expert, but without the wide front end.
The front end is kind of a combination of parts, I don't know if anyone is still making a complete wide front end or not, maybe Sno-Tek. They are good people to deal with, he would probably make you one if you wanted, I'm sure he still has access to the parts/tooling. I had to replace the heim joints, and had a bit of fun finding the right ones, since I don't know who made the radius rods, but I think they are BLT's, who are out of business. Anyway, Sno-Tek helped me out large one these, sourced the correct ones and shipped to me. Had the Works shocks rebuilt/new heads installed, they work nice. I was coming off a 900 Cat, and I think they have their shit together pretty good with suspensions, and there is just no way I could keep up on the Cat thru moguls to this set up.
FAST bought out BLT's stuff, but I don't think they have any front end stuff left? I'm sure if you want one, you'll find one, you could actually have a machine shop make the rods, and source your heim joints of choice for the outers.
I guess at the end of the day, the question is would the new skid be worth it without the wide front end-absolutely.
Does the front end compliment the new skid-absolutely.
I actually have mine set as narrow as the heim's allow, set at 44", I feel it was stressing where the trailing arms tie-into the running boards. At 43" it seems fine. I did replace the bushings there as well to be on the safe side.
Powder coated the shock springs and steering arms, and done deal!

while im at it does anyone know of an aggressive ski with better flotation than the stock ones. i know the srx isnt for deep snow but it just seems the stock skis knife through soft stuff. if u dont have good momentum in the soft stuff youre stuck.
i ride real aggressive in trails want maxximun bite .
