A guy I work with has what he claims is a "mint" '01 SX 600R. Heres the thing though, he wants $2500 for it.
I personally think that price is a little bit steep, especially considering its a 7 year old sled and its only a 600.
I mean, I could probably find a really nice SX Viper for that much money and would have a better sled than an SXr ever was and for a little more ($3500-$4000) I could probably step up to an '03 or '04 RX-1.
I havent seen the sled, so who knows what kinda shape its in, but dont you guys think that $2500 for an '01 SX 600R is a little high?

NADA (national automotive dealers accociation) priced trade in value of a 00 sxr 700 and 2600-2750 and retail at 3100. just looked it up at work on mine the otehr day. so a year new id say even a 600 would be around the same. but thast what a dealer would be askin. id say 2500 is a good askin price to start but i bet hed take 2000 for it.

I sold a 99 sx600 (long travel shocks) with 6000 miles last fall for 1800.00 US. The sled was exceptionally clean, but had been ridden hard.

I still think if it's a clean one owner sled it's worth $2500. Especially if it has under say 2800 miles or so. It's not going to be the fastest thing on the snow - I think they are between 90-95 hp - but it will run foerever and should get about 11-12 mpg doing it. If the engine is all rusty and corroded or the track is ripped up, definately knock off $ for it. A 2000 500SXR which is a twin and gets not so great gas mileage just went for $1751 on ebay I'd say a year newer and a 600 triple versus a 500 twin deifinately would be worth $500 - $600 more. Good luck - and let us know what you do! ;)!

We'll have to see how serious the guy is about selling it. We were talking about sleds the other day and he mentioned that he has a Ski-Doo 670 (Im thinkings its gotta be a Mach 1) as well as that SXr and that he likes the Doo better because of how much faster it is (I think the Doo is a triple-triple), so today I just kinda threw it out there and said, "Hey man, if you ever wanna sell the SXR, lemmie know".
Not sure when or even if it will happen, but you never know. I want to get back on a Yamaha, but I dont want to go deep into debt to do it. Im looking at getting a new truck in the next year or 2, so I dont really want a big sled payment right now, so if I could get a good Yammie for a fairly cheap price its something I would consider.
The past couple years I have listen my '01 Polaris 600 EDGE X on a few sled forums for $2300 and no one really seemed interested in it. IMO, my Polaris has better suspension and better engine performance than that SX 600R would have (but IMO the Yammie is more comfortable and more reliable) and thats what made me think that anything over $2000 is too much to pay for the SXr.
I dunno...we'll see. Im not getting my hopes up, but it never hurts to ask. Id much prefer an SX Viper, SX Venom or even better yet an RX-1 over an SX 600R, but at least the SXr would get me back on a Yamaha and for pretty cheap and right now to me getting back on a Yamaha would be more important that being fussy over which model Im on. Right about now I think Id probably be happy with a Bravo if I found a good used one and if the price was right.

Sounds like you're on trac. Keep riding your Poo until it pukes - then worry about getting a sled - meanwhile - enjoy the new truck!

rubber side down! ;)!

I have a very clean 2001 sxr600 for sale in the classifieds for $2100 o/bo. I am the original owner.

I went thru the same thing a few years back Guy was selling his 2001 SXR600 for $4000.So I bought it.I went thru the whole sled and replaced track, ski's,bearings, wheels, engine mods and clutching work.Put another $2000 plus into it.I now know this sled is like a new machine. This sled is tough.Done everything to it and just won't quite.Nothing has broke on it and I take this sled to new challenges everytime I ride.It is my ditchbanger and drift junper.I pin it hard all the time.Hit 100 mph on it and am happy.Great sled and bullet proof.I love it.Then I got a 2001 SRX700 and went thru the whole sled also and it is like new to.It is my speed sled for when I want to go fast on flat straight aways.I have 2 sleds now that are like brand new and love driving them.Again can I say BULLET PROOF.Love Yamaha and always will stay Yamaha.Have 2 buddies that are looking for sleds, and I am helping them purchase Yamaha's so we could all ride together in the TY Ride in Feb/08.Yamaha all the way, there is no other way.
:bling: :bling: :bling:

Seems kinda steep to me. Reason I say that is I bought my 01 SRX with 2800 miles, long traveled, clutched, plus many extra parts for $2800 and the sled is mint. So if it was me Id hold off on it, but again thats me.

Most likely what I will do is just ride the Polaris until something major such as the engine fails, then part it out and buy a Yammie.
It kinda makes me mad that I had an '07 Phazer on order last year and then got the idea that a dirtbike would be a better idea, only to find that after I had the bike for a while it wasnt my cup of tea. It was one of those deals where I always wanted a dirtbike and had the chance to buy one, so I figured why not. Oh well, at least now owning bikes and quads is out of my system (had an '06 YFZ 450 before I had the bike and traded the quad in on the sled) and Im focused on sleds again.
You are right that a new truck is more important than a different sled. Oh well. Im thinking about offering the guy to trade my '01 Polaris 600 even-up for his SXr. I guess we will have to just see. Im not really getting my hopes up about this deal actually going through, but it never hurts to try.

the price is a little steep. It is worth more in parts, yes. But just about every 2 stroke yami is worth more in parts than it is to sell outright now. There are 98 and 99 SRX's going for $1000, $1200, $1300. I would keep looking, some guys think there stuff is worth it's weight in gold. NADA is just about worthless. I just looked up my sled and the retail price is $500 more than what I paid for it 3 years ago.

I have seen 00 and 01 srx's for close to the same money, and some vipers for the same. I think it is too hi, but thats just me. Try to trade hime the poo for the sxr, even up. Maxdlx

Viper

Octane, I picked up a used 02 Viper for $2,000 with 1100 miles from a guy here in Maine in late summer. I think I stole it but his loss was my gain. It had sat for two years with very little use so I may have to put some time in it, but figured it was worth it. I looked at one for the wife from a guy here in Bangor That was a mint ER with 10,000 miles that he wanted 2500.00 for. I would have bought it for my wife but she didn't like how big it seemed compared to here 99 VMAX. Milage with well taken care of yamaha's don't bother me. If you want a good used Yamaha go see Bob at twin lakes Yamaha (Recreation Plus)and he will take great care of you. I bought 4 sleds and a trailer from him from 98 till 02. I see your in ST Germain Wis, Is Richards pereformance still in business? I remember seeing that 6 cyclinder VMAX mod run on the grass, now that was quite the set up!

I dont know of any Richards Performance, so Im going to have to say they are no longer in business.
The guy who might be selling me the sled is on the fence about whether or not he should sell the sled. I can tell that he really likes the sled and doesnt really want to sell it, but he races motocross and wants to get a new YZ 450, so he wants the money. Im not really holding my breath, but if he does decide to sell it to me and the sled is mint like he says, I might take that deal. Im sure I could sell my Poo for $2000, so it would only cost me $500 tops.
Im still going to look around though. Who knows where they are good used Yammies out there and if worse comes to worse, I will just ride the Poo another year.
Its all good either way. Either Im back on a Yammie sled this winter or Im back behind the wheel of a Toyota next summer (planning to order an '09 Toyota Tacoma if I dont find a sled that fits my budget). Either way I will have a new riceburner to play with, so Im not going to be singing the blues regardless of what happens.
Thats what I told that guy who has the 600 at work. I told him, "if you wanna sell it to me, great. If you dont, thats cool too. I dont want you to feel pressured to to anything you dont wanna do."

Why would you even bother with it? You said on another site that the yamaha suspension's were junk, why would you want junk?

Never said they were junk, I said that Yamaha was behind in terms of rear suspension and had some issues. All sleds have issues.
I would bother with it because this is the sled I actually wanted when I bought my Polaris.

You might want to look into a 700 vs. the 600 redhead. They are the same bottom ends. The 600 triple is an awesome motor, but your 600 ProX will walk all over the 600 triple. I am just saying you might be a little disappointed in 95 HP. My .02
