can you take pics of your sled? and post them. I use and good engine cleaner. Simply green from cdn tire etc and hose off. Word of caution, on the started recoil there is a hole (top) cover that when your hosing it down. Then start the engine as soon as possible. Also make sure the engine is a little warm not stone cold. This will help when you start after rinsing off the cleaner.I also use spray on tire foam stuff to get the shine on the plastic and seat. If the engine is really dull Im not sure steel wool (fine) ? scrub away to try and get it clean. Wire brush ( fine ) not sure.....

Here's a few pictures. I've tried using engine degreaser, brake cleaner, soaked cylinders in tranny fluid for about 2 weeks and although it helped, it's like the grease and dirt has worked it's way into the pores of the aluminum. I was thinking about going 2000srx's route and sanding and polishing the top end, but I'm not really looking forward to 2 weeks straight of polishing either! lol. I still might do it though as it looks amazing. The rest is no big deal as it's just plastic/ smooth aluminum so it's easy to polish. It's the cast aluminum that's hard to clean. The bottom end is also something I'd like to get shined up a little. Thanks for helping by the way.

even spraying on engine cleaner it did not even get the hoses clean? Let it soak it should come clean the cyn aren't that bad. Get GM engine cleaner its a little stronger. I have never used it no need but I hear its good.
Have fun keep me posted.

keep in mind my cylinders are clean but not new looking. I think you may have to sand blast them if they are really bad.

Hey guys while your on the topic of cleaning..... whats the best way of removing the black exhaust marks on the blue plastic?? Mine desperately needs it, just wondering what you guys use.

Thanks

dont truckers use muriatic acid to keep their rims clean, i bet you would have to tear down not sure how the gaskets would like the stuff though? this is more of a question not an answer.

We have stuff at work (I work at a Case IH dealership) its cnh engine degreaser we use on the combines and tractors, i used it last weekend on my engine compartment and it literally cut through the grease.... i've yet to try it on the cast aluminum but what I can tell you is it is extremely good and it will eat through almost any grease you should try it.... and its real cheap to, only like $5 a can.

getting the exhaust residue off the belly pan is tough. I can't figure it out and well, will leave it and not risk damage.

I knew I shouldn't of opened this thread. That damn video has got me all worked up and ready to leave school just to listen to it run. Gotta love the sound of triples.

I figured I would start early. I don't want to go through what I went through last season.
Getting the itch is goooood.:)

I never did try the hoses yet. I know they will be easy to clean aswell. I just had the top end off and figured that since it's off I will try to clean it up. I only really got as far as the cylinders before I just put everything back together for now to keep the motor from getting dirt inside. The pictures were taken a couple weeks back as I planned on opening a thread on this exact topic. Anyway, I think i'll try the other types of degreaser and see if I can get my hands on some of that acid. I will no doubt keep everything posted if I have any luck on the "SRX Spring Clean" thread in the working log.

Thanks again everyone for the help.

actually as a harley rider i can tell you it's coming communities and citys around the country are creating and or enforcing old noise ordinance including ticketing bikes. there are areas that i dont not go to because of this it's just a matter of time. and in my recent edition of hog tales there is an artice about previously bike friendy areas including rally towns sturgis, daytona, laconia that are struggling with the ideas of inforcing noise levels. so if those towns are thinking about it the rest aren't far behind.
