Matching Pair-1997 600SX and 700SX-$2200!

Okay guys....This is my first post on TY. I'm so excited by this deal I can't stand it.

I just picked up a matching pair of Yamaha's... A red 1997 600SX and a red 1997 700SX. The 600 has 2300 miles on it and the 700 has 2600. They both need new skis and could use tracks, but other than that they're mint! Totally Mint. $2200 for BOTH sleds. Both started 3rd pull as I counted out the cash. I'm psyched!

The owner said that both sleds had the rear suspension swapped out 4 years ago with 2002 Viper rear ends that he picked up from somewhere. Said both skids were new when they went in. I'm fairly new to Yamaha (at least in the modern sled sense), so I can't tell if he's fibbing or not. Is there any way I can tell? Is this a good thing?--What benefit does the Viper rear end give me?

Also, the 700 has reverse, and Ohlin piggyback shocks on the front. Figured those were a pretty expensive option, but I'm not sure.

Anything you guys can tell me about these sleds I would appreciate it. I am also looking for some inexpensive plastic skis for both sleds, so if you can give me some advice that would be great too!

I don't even have a clue how to set them up... I think I'll be searching TY quite a bit in the next couple months!

Viper skidframes have 11.5" of travel where your sleds stock only had 8.5".With proper setup they don't sit much higher though.'02 vipers originally had very stiff shock valving so it would be good for you to know if you have the updated shocks or not.It will be very hard to tell by looks, but after you ride them you'll know as if there extremely stiif no matter what you do adjustment wise.They are sweet sleds for sure, especially the 700.Take some time and look over the technical section, there is a ton you can learn about your new sleds in there.As for skis get with Rich from Rich motorsports on here, he'll take good care of you and has excellent prices on skis and tracks as well.Welcome to the site, youir gonna like it here the people are super and you'll learn a ton.

I need two tracks and two sets of inexpensive skis for them, if anyone has them for sale. I've been browsing the classified's and ebay, but no luck yet.

Well. Got one set of skis! Now I need another set, and two tracks! Well--one track is a must, but the 700 track could go a season...

get atleast a 1" track for the 700 and put your current track on the 600.. Keep looking for skis and stuff you'll eventuallly find them here or on ebay. Keep a cool head and you'll save some dough. T

viper/rx/apex skis will run you about 125-150. they work good but will lower the front of the sled. keep in mind the height of the ski to the bolt. those sleds sit very low in the front with the stock skis. you can install viper/vmax front long travel shocks to that sled with no modifications to get back some height if you go with lower skis.

those are both great, fun sleds. in the tech there are alot of free mods for the motors.

if they are viper skids, they will have adjustable nuts on the rear transfer rods and will have plastic wheels. what they might have done too is installed viper shocks which will give you the same end result. stock skid would have aluminum wheels.

One question--I just bought a pair of skis off a 2001 SXR--they're the GYT type skis... Will these lower the ride height too? I'd like to find two more pairs of these if they work okay (My two sleds and replace the steelies on my Dad's VMAX 500)...Also--anyone know how these skis work? Is the steering effort easy? I'm really looking for a nice, stable cruising trail ski... Nothing too agressive or twitchy, and easy to steer... My Dad's 82, and my two yammies will be ridden by ladies...
