Help The Viper Keeps Poping The Same Cylinder

I Have An O2 Viper That Keeps Popiing The Same Cylinder I Bought It Used With 1500 Miles The Guy Said It Never Had A Problem I Rode It For Two Trips The Fist It Poped 300 Miles In With No Warning And The Second Time 300 Miles In Same Prob. It Is Heavily Picked And I Fear The Crank May Be To Blame. Looking For Some Advice Before I Rebuild And Or Part It Out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks
 
what cylinder is it?
if its one of the out side u may have a bad crank seal. also carbs and carb boots can cause a burn down. u may want to do an air leak test.

get ur self a can of carb cleaner or eather the spray kind. then when teh sled is idelin spay one carb boot at a time all over it and then do the same for the crank seals. if the motor revs up theres ur leake.
 
carbs are good boots as well the crank seal i never checked. i havent look at the sled since winter but i think it was the outside cylinder!
 
PTO(Clutch Side) or Magneto(Recoil Side)......Which cylinder is it????? Saying the outside cylinder doesnt help.

whats you're definition of popping. are you sticking it, burning a hole in it etc. what the condition of the plug does it have aluminum on it. why do you think the crank is to blame?

Most likely the mag crank seal, if you can get it to run...spray some starter fluid or eather or propane...if she races up the engine then you'll know...mine was totally gone...

could be the base gasket, especially if you reused it, and it happened again. Maxdlx
 
thanks guys im putting a hole in the top of the piston the jetting is stock and correct carbs are good when i rebuilt it the first time i used all new gaskets base included! i only wonder about the crank because it seems like detonation by blowing a hole in it! but prior to this i didnt know and or check the crank seal on that side! thanks keep the advice coming!!!!
 
the viper crank is welded from the factory, so that almost can't be it. I'd put money on the crank seal. Is it back together and runable now? Maxdlx
 
its still together and runs with the bad cylinder? can i test it now???
 
nope won't do anygood with no compression on that cylinder. I'd go ahead and replace the crank seals while you have it apart. You can look at the crank then too, but it would be almost impossible for a weld to break. I'd check and double check the carb boot, and the reed gaskets when you have it apart, and make sure that isn't where your air leak is coming from. Clean the carb really well, cross your fingers and try it again. Maxdlx
 
Ok! Im Not Worried About The Crank Being Broke I Heard Some One Here Talk About It Walking Or Coming Out Of Series?
 
Viper cranks are welded from factory, most likely the crank seal and or use of a too hot heat range spark plug will also hole the piston. If it has the correct 9 heat range plug in it, I would look at the mag side crank seal.

This based off your other post that you have effectively cleaned the carbs and have no air leaks around the reed blocks.
 
ok guys thanks you have got me ready to fix the viper i was getting ready to ditch it or part her out i really do love the sled but have had a rough season last year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
As others have already mentioned, check the carbs to make sure you don't have something partially blocking the main jet causing it to run lean on that cylinder.
