Curious...Obvious mine is the same as above...but YamerDown mentioned to me awhile back about the carb heaters being on in 0 to -10 temps...I've never turned my heaters off (but now will)..but as he mentioned..your fuel is slightly getting boiled when the machine is warm...could this have an effect on the (slight throttle when starting warm)... curious if others keep there Carbs on or Off...

I ran my carb heaters once last year when it was below zero and i did notice it started harder warm . But anyway i do need to crack the throttle just a bit to fire it up usually . My old SX 700 was the same way , I could pull all day or just crack the throttle and be riding . . its a small price to pay for the elusive permagrin !
lol, not quite but we know what you mean.S.S.Viper said:fuel is slightly getting boiled
Even with the heaters off you will likely want to open the throttle slightly to get it to start easily when warm. Not sure if it’s cause the mixture left in the cylinder is rich and this leans it out, or if its cause the extra air flowing through the carbs atomizes more fuel allowing it to start. Who knows???
My Viper is the same way and I know it’s jetted on the rich side right now. My Polaris is the same way too. Actually to start my Polaris warm or cold you need to hold it open a bit.

guys, the answer is in the float height. alot of carbs i have set up on yamahas have had floats that bottoms out on the top of the carb before completely closing the valve. if your riding your sled and using gas, shut it off, the preasure in the lines push gas into and allready too full carb and flood the motor a little. set the floats to 13-14mm(all the same).
you will know if this is a problem when you remove your bowls and can not push down(carb upside down)the float. this means it has bottomed out.
as for the hard pull when the sled is cold. if you know the sled will be started in the cold later, pull the choke before you shut it off. the extra gas washes some of the oil off the sides of the cylinders so when it is started cold, the cold oil wont drag on the rings. i was told this years ago and the only problem with it is remembering to do it.

Cool
BETHEVIPER: thanks for the tips, I'm doing my carbs next week...set floats at 13mm & will try the shut down choke trick as well come cold season...cheers

ok......I adjusted my choke cable before starting my sled, which I had running a week ago and it took 12 pulls. When I start my srx 600 it takes a good 10 to 15 pulls to get it to start if it has been sitting for a week or so. Even in the summer. I have never cleaned the carbs. Is this the problem. Once the sled is running it runs perfect. This will be my third season. 3+ pulls, I wish!!!!!!
