What are some of the key areas i should focus on when i inspect this sled? also what do you guys think this sled is worth. thanks jason

I think.....only '98,99 were the same, sombody probly didn't have the jetting right and burt it down,SRX's need premium fuel, great sleds,fast,98's
99's had crank bearing problem's run your vin number at your yammie dealer
to see if they been changed,if not you need it done and your crank trued.
good luck..

blown motor <$1000. Yes the cylinders are interchangeable for 98-99. Years 2000-2002 are different. Did it burn down or did something blow?
As Daman said, the SRX's are pretty darn reliable, so chances are good that whatever happened to it was caused by the previous owner and yes, check to see if the crank has been updated. If you do end up buying it, be certain it is jetted correctly as airbox mods, aftermarket pipes, reeds etc. may cause it to run lean. If it's all stock, check to see if it has the stock jetting as the previous owner may have changed them.
98-99 Srx
98 and 99 srx's did have a problem with the cranks going out of phase, not a bearing problem. If your going to rebuild it ,send the crank to be checked and have all the pins welded to keep it in phase.OEM pistons are the best. SRX,s don,t like to be run lean !!!

i havent seen it yet, i wish i had more info to give you guys im buying off a classified ad that says that it turns over fine but needs a center piston, it does appear to be in good shape with stock pipes and stock airbox, ill have to ask him for the vin

I had plenty of engine problems with mine. a bad exhaust donut, weak springs, or a vacume leak anywere could easily take out a cylinder. so could a bad crank.
an SRX with a blown engine shouldn't be worth too much because a used engine costs almost as much as a used sled.
700 engine parts are cheaper than 600s because of numbers made.
new cylinder can interchange with older, but they are ported slightly diferently.
