Hey people. I am looking for some opinions good or bad. I would like to long track my wife's 2002 SXR 600. I have a spare 144" x 1.25" track kicking around which I would like to use. I would like to use a different OEM suspension but around here in Saskatchewan Canada they are way out of the price range. Next option would be to use Tracks USA tip up rail extensions.
Tunnel extension I can fab my self. and maybe some drop brackets if I can't see a side profile picture of a long track Yamaha with the one's advertised on this site.. I would like to see what it looks like first before I would order and end up not liking them. She likes the look of the rear raised up.
What about transfer rod elimination kits. Good , Bad. and another idea was to get 136 extensions and relocate the skid. Good or bad.
I perfer the look of extensions that use the hyfax it just looks cleaner to me.
The conditions we ride in are flat land. Lots of trails and offtrail conditions. We usuall take the trail for a while then go cross contry , maybe some ditch riding. A mixture of everything except hills. Kind of hard to find here in the prairies. My wife weighs about 140 lb dressed any suspension tips. The main reason for the longer track is to smopthen out the ride on the trails when they are pounded out and to help her out in the fluffy stuff. I found that the SXR darted alot on open feilds that had a hard crust of snow on top. Fresh powder was fine but any freezing rain and the ride was scary on the crust. On the trails it rides like it is on rails. Way better steering than my 700 RMK She kicks my *** in the trails.
I was reading that removing the transfer rods will make the front end rise quite a bit. Will this still happen with the lokger track. She never really punches it out of a corner more or less just zips around at a steady speed. I would like just enough lift to get the front end up better in the snow. If she lets of in the deep it's like a bull dozer.
Lets here what you have to say. I have a month or more before we start the project.

Anybody have some pictures of what they did.
I did a 136 ext. with tracks usa and is great, the extension are excelent quality but I was not very happy with the tunnel...do one your self...I also didn't use hose cover. I will send you some pics later all the procces when pretty smooth and I'm a beginner with sleds (only 4 seasons)
Do a search on this web site and you will find a ton of information and pics i remember doing it....If you can't find any let me know and I'll look.....
Mine was a 136 ext with 1.25 predator and 144 tunnel extension...I just wanted the cargo space and looks better that way.....
Any questions just ak

Thanks Niko. Pictures would be great. I have a Polaris donar tunnel. When I get around to the build I will make some measurements and see if I can modify to fit.
The hose covers would be the next task. Hard to find used covers and I won't pay Yamaha what they want for plastic covers. I may make some aluminum one's or see if I can route the hoses a different way. I can't remember how they are on the short track. Are they under the seat. Sled is still in storage.

I would really like a different skid but I don't think it will happen this year unless I can find one cheap. Maybe in the spring but right now everything has winter pricing. I think a Polaris extra lite would work nice but Ski doo does ride very nice but that's as far as I would go with a Doo product.

that is what I am doing with mine. Sounds like we do a lot of similar riding.

I have the same track as you but in 144". I would love to put pipes on the little 600 but mommy says no. She has all the power she wants. I will do the reed notch and tweak the clutch just for when I ride it. I live in the flat land but hate the trails. The best trail for me to ride is the one I am making myself. We usually get some good snowfall here. I can always find a feild off the beaten path that has lots of untouched powder. That's why I am putting a long track on for the wife. Less digging more riding.
It may be only a 100 hp sled but on the hard pack it gives my 700 rmk a good run, hate to say it but it's true. Gas mileage is as good as some 4 strokes dam near. I may snag the neighbors Viper if he is not to crazy on a price, and then tweak it to show him what he could of been riding if he wasn't so tight with his money. This Viper looks mint. You could eat off the motor.
Here is a picture of my first sled after being out of the sport for 14 yrs. Got it dirt cheap so I played with it a little. It is a 91 indy 500.

I did a 136" conversion from 121" to 136". It was the best thing I have done to the sled. I do similiar riding as you, flat land and a little off trail. With the longer track it doaes save your back. If possible I wil hunt down a parts list from the Maxx Performance Cross Country kit. All the parts for that kit are Genuine Yamaha OEM including the tunnel ext.
Here is a pic after it was all done.

There is a place in Edmonton(http://www.punchbuggies.com/index.php) that is wrecking a couple MM. i got the tunnel extension and bumper cover off one. They may have a 136 skid. Also check the forum classifieds, I picked up a 136 skid, relocate template, 144 extensions and plastic skis for a smokin deal from a guy in BC. The one piece bumper/hose cover will not work well with a short track tunnel. Had to cut the cover and leave the hoses exposed. I used some hose benders(from NAPA, looks like spring with a flat metal soldered to it) to keep the radius and offer a little protection.
