Interesting. Though I don´t believe that HONDA will come to play with sleds. Not a big slice of cake to share nowdays..

I think it would be cool - Honda makes a great product and it would be nice to see what they could do with the Polaris line - there quality and technology would be right in line with Yamaha!!

I'm not really sure what to think about it. I think it would be good and bad in a way.
Honda makes excellent products and they are similar in many ways to Yamaha. It would be a great sled. We will have to wait to see.

I would think that if Honda does make a machine and put there apples in the sledbasket (which I'm sure they won't..but could)... Cat and Polaris might feel threatened and would have the right to feel that way...Exactly what Viper7,o says...theirs allot of similarities between Honda and Yamaha..4stroke being the main word... I can't see BRP feeling threatened with the SDI and all 3 recreational/seasonal vehicles being strong in their own catergories...
If at all...I couldn't see why Honda would want em?...Unless they'd produce engines for them...hmmm

You gotta consider that Honda got into the PWC market just as it was starting its decline. I dont see why Honda would want Polaris either, other than for the tooling and the suspension technology.
I dont foresee Honda buying Polaris, but you never know. Polaris exited the PWC market suddenly and without much warning, whats to say they wouldnt do the same with sleds?
Their reasons for not making PWCs anymore is because there wasnt enough profit for it to make sense for them from a business standpoint and you could easily say the same about the snowmobile market.

Honda has always had a reputation as the highest of quality. I really doubt they would start out with the Polaris line.

I think it is pretty obvious why Honda would want Polaris - snowmobiles, the ranger atv line, and expanded market share - their main competition has been Yamaha - with this aquisition, they would aline themselves squarely with Yamaha's line up and gain an established market share while saving on R&D, tooling, and patents - that is what aquisitions are all about - going from A to C without spending the B!!!! - it is really no different than the aquisitions BRP made in Evinrude and the SDI technology - who better to buy than your competition???!!!???!!!

I agree with ya........With Poo dipping into the 4 Stroke sled market, I can see Honda buying them to make improvements. If Honda started making sleds when everyone else did, I'd more than likely be owning them right now, but they never did so I went to the next best thing. Honda and Yamaha are the only brands Ill ever own, powersport wise. Mainly cause bigger companys have more $$$$$$$$$$$ which= better technology and better products. Plus both Honda and Yamaha deal in/with the auto industry so your 4 stroke technology cant get much better than that, hard to say but its true. Ill leave the plane and trane making to Bombarider or however you spell it.

I think if it happened they would only buy the snowmobile division. Honda already makes some nice 4 wheelers.

LMAO - that is too funny! - I think what people don't realize is that just because Honda were to buy Polaris it does not mean that they (Polaris) will stay as we now know it - they will change and improve on what Polaris has now to produce a competetive unit - I'm not knocking Yamaha in any way, but I think this would create some awesome competition (in the four stroke market) with them that would yield some awesome products - until someone else gets serious about the 4 stroke market, we are not going to see its full potential!!! - I also think that it is just a matter of time and Doo will jump on the 4 stroke band wagon - I think that is what the lightweight XP is ultimately designed for!!!

Oh if Honda ends up buying them out. Ill give it 2-3 years max. till there line of sleds are all 4 Strokes. Which I also agree will great for the 4 Stroke sled industry and moving ahead. IMO the New Nytro doesnt do much for me LOOKs(Front end: Hood, Side Panels, Headlight, Etc design sure looks alot like a Doo Freestyle.... ....MO) then theres the WEIGHT and for the New XP the LOOKs alone are enough to steer me away but its also a ticking time bomb. Ill glady ride my Yamaha 2 smoke dinosaurs. Viper and SRX BEST 2 SMOKES Yamaha ever made.

ExpertXViper - yes the SRX and the Viper are indeed two of the best 2 strokes ever made - I'm still riding an SRX - but the future is four stroke - like it or not, that is the way it is - the more the tree huggers (Democrats) are elected, the quicker it is going to become reality - that being said, I can't help but think that if Honda were to buy out Polaris, they would embrace the four stroke and help raise the bar for themselves and Yamaha and the whole four stroke movement which equates to better products for all of us!!!

If they do buy them out, I hope that they still offer 2 stroke snowmobiles as well.

maybe the reason behond all the honda dealers ar dropping cat cause they have to make room for some honda sleds on the floor. had a dealer in town that just got rid of cat. i'll have to go and ask him if he knows much about them.

That is not necessarily true by any means that four strokes are the way of the future. That is YAMAHA's solution to all the new emissions regulations and it only made sense from a company at the forefront of performance four-stroke engine technology. However, bombardier/rotax/evinrude/can am has STRONG two-stroke technology and is using highly-developed electronics and sensors to make their two strokes meet emissions, and are doing it at much lighter weight and virtually no cost penalty over the four strokes. And this is still all without a form of e-tec on the sleds. NO LAW is EVER going to state that all vehicles of any sort must be four stroke or two stroke or rotary or diesel or any other engine type, they will simply have emission standards, possible fuel consumption minimums, CO2 emissions regulations, NOx emissions regulations, etc, and it will be the job of each individual manufacturer to decide what solution method will provide the best balance between profitability, dependablity and feasibility. That is how it is now, and with the more stringent emissions in the future that is still how it will be.

It will never happen. Last year when the Cat Jag Z1R came out, Cat said that they tried every 4-stroke engine that Suzuki makes (including the Gixxer motor) and that none of them worked well in a snowmobile, so Cat designed their own 4-stroke and had Suzuki build it.blue missile said:you guys forget about suzuki lurking around, bikes, cars, outboards atv's and their own sleds in the 70's, not to mention cat engines i'm just waiting for cat to get ahold of the mighty gsxr motor and try to put it in a sled. buy the way i have a gsxr and a king quad 700 in my yammi stable.
Other than Yamaha, the whole rest of the industry is going to try to sell us on twins because they are less expensive to manufacture.

Why would Honda need to buy polaris? They have duplicate product lines except for snowmobiles. The Honda brand name is enough to carry a new entry. Do you really think that Honda would want all the US baggage for just snowmobile technology? I think its rectless speculation.
I do agree if and when Honda wants in to snowmobile its going to be a game changer.
