Will a set of TM 38's (off a Mach Z) not TMX 38's make a good gain on a 2002 ported SRX 700 with v force reeds?

did you ever run some stock carbs on that same engine? If so, what was your jetting at with the stock carbs on that big bore. I am just trying to get a base or a safe jetting for these carbs to run at. Let me know. Thanks
 
Nope, I have only run the big bore with the 38's. I ran the 38's on a ported motor, but can't remember the jetting I ran. That was quite some time ago. I would guess that jetting would be in the 250,260,270 range on a stock motor, give or take a couple of sizes. I might even run 40 pilots on a stock motor.
 
Alright, I picked up some 38's off of a Mach Z and i am trying to find a good starting combination with these pipes on my engine. It is currently a stock SRX engine with the Power Inc pipes on it. I am currently running 45 pilots on it which actually seem to be on the rich side and 150 PTO, 148.8 Center, 148.8 Mag which is also slighty on the rich side but not to bad. I am thinking I am going to run some 42.5 pilots in it but i am still uncertain as to what the mains should be at. You are thinking in the 260 range for this setup then? Thanks for all the help.
 
Yes. Should be somewhere around there. Maybe a bit higher with the pipes. Take everything out of your airbox (shelf and dividers), and cut holes or a slot into the top for more air. I found that the jetting had to be completely staggered (with the big bore anyways).

Hey Valin, I was just curious if by the main jets, are the main jets in these carbs the long hex style or the short round ones? I have not recieved the carbs yet and I am almost positive that those main jets are the long hexagon style but I am just checking. Please let me know and also let me know about the staggered jetting from my previous post. Thanks again.
 
The mains in the 38's are the hex style. As for staggering the jetting, I meant from PTO to mag......so, for example, 450 PTO, 460 center, 470 mag. I only had to do this with everything out of the airbox, but I found I couldn't get enough air without completely gutting it, and cutting an extra slot in the top.
 
Okay, the hex style mains makes alot more sense now. You had the Mag side being the richest out of all the cylinders? Lastly, did you have the airbox completely gutted when you were running the 38's on your ported SRX engine with the 270/260/250? Thanks for everything.
 
Yes. I had the airbox gutted at all times with the 38's. Don't quote me on those jetting specs. You'll have to figure out the jetting on your own.
