Stopped by a local dealership today to inquire about getting a reverse kit for my 01 SRX. A mechanic overheard me talking with the parts guy and recommended not doing it. He stated that there have ben problems with reversing an SRX because the chain is narrower and has been prone to breaking when slowing down quickly after accelerating up to around 85 mph.

Can anyone chime in on this? Fact or Fiction?

What kit do I need is I decide to go forward with it?

Thanks SRXer. I'd love to speak with you some more regarding your setup. Can you pm me with some information on what you've done to your SRX.

In the mean time I'll do a search

Thanks

I also have a reverse 2001 SRX and no issues at all. If I remember correctly I used the stock chain. Absolutely the best thing I have ever done to any of my machines. Its a little work but worth it in the end. SRXer helped me out a lot!!!!

people have been reversing those since new with no problems. your going to want to buy one for a viper if your buying new. i just sold one. they are out there, just need to be patient. you can even put electric on the srx too.

Huh?

I bought a reverse kit from an SX off BTV to put on my Viper. It had "silent" gears in it and I wanted HYVO so I bought new gears from Rich Motorsports. I used the stock chain that was in the original Viper chain case when I put it all back together. It is the same HYVO chain that came stock on the 00 and up SRX I believe. I don't think the mechanic knows what the heck he is talking about. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it to be the same width chain......13?

you are correct matt(where is my boss seat?)13wide on the hyvo as well. if you buy one for a viper you will have the correct chain. others will work just make sure you get chain and gears with it.
