hey guys,

What clutching and jetting will i need for my 98 srx 700 with PI pipes? My mods are shaved heads, ported, reed spacers, some unknown clutching (done by my cousins iantomasi racing, its a secret) and thats about it. I need to know what parts to purchase, where to purchase and how to do this before the winter comes along.

Thanks, Nik

2000srx runs 45 mains, with 150 PTO, 148.8 CEN, and 148.8 MAG. will this work for me. I do have ome porting and heads are shaved and the squish angle has been changed. Would this make a difference.

what about clutching, i am lost on that.

It is hard to judge as for your jetting on that sled. You know the jetting I was running and it tended to be a little rich when run on my engine which I was happy with. You have work done to your engine where as mine is a stocker besides reeds. You are going to have to jet richer than I had to because of the porting but I am not exactly sure how much richer. As for clutching, you are going to have to find out what your RPM's are at right now when you run the sled and report back to us. I know these pipes like to be run at 8350 RPM on a stock engine.

ok i will try and find some info out withing th next week or so. What should i look for so you guys know?

i will try and get the rpm as close to 8350 as possible. I know i have some clutching and it is dead on for the sled now. will i have to make any major changes to it? Like say it is running at 8400 max rpm. would i have to change anything else, it is a GREAT clutch setup (done by profesional racers, but they didnt tell me).

When I ran them I think I had to go up one size on the mains from what ever you where running before installing them.

Before I was running the Power Inc pipes, I was running the stockers and I ran 42.5 pilots in it along with 146.3 PTO, 145 Center, and 145 Mag. This was an extremely cautious way of going about it because I went up 3 jet sizes across the board on the mains. This was also due to the fact that I was running pretty lean jetting for the stock pipes so I wanted to be safe. If I were still running the stock carbs I would drop it down one jet size across the board and run 148.8 PTO, 147.5 Cen, and 147.5 Mag. You are probably safest going up 2 jets sizes from what you are currently at across the board th your mains. As for your Pilots, I went from 42.5 to 45 but I think it seemed pretty rich on the bottom end so I would've thrown the 42.5 back into it. As for clutching, you should first get your jetting dialed in and go from there. What you are going to realize with these pipes is they do make more HP and they are going to increase your stock clutching RPM's about 100 through the entire powerband. These pipes also perform very well at 8400 RPM and if you can get it to stay near those numbers you are going to be very impressed. Also with these pipes, the hotter they get, the more power you are going to make out of them. If you can purchase some pipe wrap for them or get them ceramic coated or block off some hood vents or one of the above, you should see better power out of the pipes and the sled. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks a lot Matt. I will be sure to let you know if I have any other questions. I try to get them ceramic coated withing the next year or so. But until then i think i will just rap them. i was going to pic kup the pipes today but the seller's buddy ran into a couple problems. So monday night i might be picking them up.
