Can anyone with first hand experience comment on a statement at the end of this. Just to re cap I sold yet another one of my SRX's and regret it. I wanted to get something that had the same if not more power but was nice in the bumps. I did not want to rip an SRX apart and put in a new suspesion but it looks like I may have to if I want the best of both world's. At the end of the day I want a sled that will accel for 0-100 like the SRX did. I have still been looking at the 800 Rev's but not sold yet on one.
This is a question I posed to someone that has an 03 800 Rev for sale. This gentlemen is also a BIG yama guy also. I would say he is more yama directed than Ski Doo. It sounds like he know his stuff on both sleds just want to see if there is some real life stories to back this up?
Comment:
As far as the behind a srx, out of the hole you will
eat one up till the 80 - 85 ish mark. At that point
the srx will start to catch you. On packed snow a well
setup srx will never beat you in 1000-1200 feet. at
about the 1400 - 1500 foot mark they will start to
head past you.

Are you serious? Guess it depends on the length of the race, but my stock clutched single pipe Viper will beat both those DOOs on a lake, so an SRX should have no problem.bud4ya said:On hard pack straight line both riders equal in weight and both sled stock. Then same 2 set of races with both sled clutched.
Race 1:
03/04 Rev 600 HO
2001/2002 SRX
Race 2:
03/04 800 Non Ho
01/02 SRX
I raced each of the following last year and easily pulled each of them on the top end. Yah, they all took me off the line, but once I caught them... As for as I know, each was totally stock:
06 MX Z X 800 H.O. PowerTEK
05 MX Z X 800 H.O.
03 MX Z Renegade 800 (136") - no contest!
06 RS Vector
07 MX Z Trail (500ss, which is really a 600cc) - no contest!
Anyway, to answer your other question. If I was you I'd buy an SRX that has already been setup with a better suspension, since it sounds like you don't want to do the swap yourself.
That's my 2 cents...

Thanks for the input so it sounds like a stock 03 800 Rev non HO will take an Stock SRX out of the hole till about 70-80 then it is ALL SRX from there.
I have been having a hard time finding a nice clean low mileage 01 or 02 SRX here in NH.
How close of a race do you think it would be with a clutched viper with triple pipes against a clutched 01, 02 SRX? Of course taking into consideration equal weight of riders and ability.

lol, I'll let you know this year when I race my neighbour SNOWRULES. His SRX is MR VIPER ported, but I should be able to give you a fair idea. We are the same weight, same height, have the same tracks, same stud length, same number of studs, same stud pattern... geez, we even have the same carbides, for crying out loud. Obviously he has the upper hand, but it's going to be a fun race regardless.
Anyway, agains a non-ported SRX I would expect I would have the upper hand, but I've yet to install the pipes and/or run them so I have no idea.
I'll let you know how I do once the lake freezes.

"Last winter up in calumet mich. we ran a '00 SRX with heelclickers, '03 Viper with Hauck's venom kit and a stock Apex GT. All had identical Ripsaw tracks and riders are between 160 and 175. We ran up to around 90-100 then ran out of room but it was SRX, Viper 1 or 2 sledlengths behind then Apex probably 4 or 5 behind SRX. Although the Apex was a rental so it may not of had the best suspension set up."
I took this post out of a different thread. I hope it helps with your question.

I am gping back a few years but here is an SRX story. When I was driving my 79 Exciter 440,my bud had the 78 SRX 440.My cousin bought a brand new Polaris(not sure if it was the Indy or not..think it had a triple engine in it)probably with independant susupension as well.I am going back a few years,my memory might be off a bit.I set them 2 guys to have a race on a 1 mile stretch on the river. My cousin said he will beat the SRX no problem(having a brand new sled and newer year)They lined up a mile down, could see their headlights running. My other cousin and I were at the other end waiting.I jumped up and waved them to start the race. It was interesting to say the least.Since 3 of us had Yamaha's and there was one Polaris. We saw their headlights flickering and the race was on.We were a little astonished that my cousin on the Polaris took the SRX off the line and was pulling away from him,we were a little pissed at that point.I's say at about half way mark the Polaris was in the lead and something started to happen.I figured the SRX was spinning out of the hole and that's why the Poo was ahead. We noticed the SRX stated climbing on the POO.It was getting close to the end and we were wishing. The SRX climbed on him and passed him like he was standing still and won the race.We were speechless. Now the SRX was a 440 and I think the Indy was a 600.My cousin was just ticked right off,and he left us crying basically. He thought nothing could touch his new beast. That 78 SRX really rocked, and I have many more stories about it,beating the crap out of a 9500 Blizzard after the Doo had a head start yet. This time the rider of the SRX flagged down another race, ran back to the running SRX and nailed it and passed all 4 sleds that were racing that time.WICKED MAN.SRX all the way Man.
