I understand the Opticool head gasket is used when running pipes on a viper and gives better cooling. Could it also be used on a stock engine for better cooling. I know it may seem like a dumb question. I just want to be sure, I have an extra, and thaught i'd use it if it will help.

Sure...why not...I've ridden in low snow conditions where my light kept on coming on and off...I went the Rear Heat Exchange route instead...however I was gunna go to the Opticool route if it still persisted...I haven't heard negative things about it...why not protect yer investment right..
I most likely will go the opticool route if I change up heads...but thats down the road...

good luck

all you need is the rear heat exchanger, this will solve all your problems. the opticool simply reroutes the flow of the coolant to help cool the cylinders better because some get hotter than the others.

The sled is an 04 viper that comes with the rear exchanger. I didn't notice it getting hot last season, but the dcs would come on on cold day's. I took the head off and sent it to benders for running pipes. They sent me the opticool gasket with the head. Turns out i purchaced another 04 viper and will be installing the head and pipes on that one instead. This ones going back to stock, but i already have a opticool gasket and figured if it can't hurt i'll use it on this one. So it will improve cooling, and maybe keep the dcs light off on cold day's?

I dont think that gaskit will help with dcs as thats just from running leaner and its sensing some detontation. Only more octane or bigger jets will cure that. It might help with cooling. But if its running fine now with no overheating issues than I wouldnt mess with it, save it for when you re-reing or rebuild.

Running lean heats up the head and cylinder causing detonation. If running the opticool gasket would keep the heat down in the head, it should cut down on detonation. Just a theory, I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong. The head is off anyway and i have the gasket. If you guy's think its a waste of a gasket i'll put the stock one back in.

Actually.... I think with the stock head yamaha has already addressed the cooling issue by lowering the compression on the hottest cyl.

Its really cold here for about a month of the season. For that month i can't go wide open for long before the dcs light would come on. I'm thinking rather than jetting up for that month, I could run the opticool gasket all year and not have to worry about it. Maybe it wouldn't work, I don't know.
