Hey Guys I Finally Got To Disassembly On My 02 Viper. I Melted The Outside (magneto Side Piston). This Happened Twice Last Season After I Purchesed The Sled Used. A Few Of You Hinted To The Crank Seal So Thats Where Im Going. The Last Time I Rebuilt The Top End I Checked Carbs, Power Valves, Used All New Gaskets And Parts. So The Crank Seal Is The Only Thing I Over Looked. Just Looking For Any More Advice Or Help Before I Pull The Motor! Thanks
the mag cylinder is the common one to fail in a viper as its the hottest running cylinder in a viper. I will bet youll find a dry flaky crankseal with black goop that melted and oozed to the backside of the stator and the inside of the seal will be red worn thru to inner material and dry flaked peices in the relief of the seal. just a hunch.

mrviper700: Is this crankseal something to worry about on a viper - should it be checked / replaced at any interval / miles?
higher mileage yes, above 5000 miles?? when I would start suspecting them or if the sled sits alot of time. I have seen good ones at 8000 miles, and then I have had bad ones at 2000 miles, I dont think there is a definite answer to it, but in this paticular case keeps popping pistons in the mag side, I would highly suspect it.

Would Fogging The Engine Help When The Sled Is Stored For The Summer?
I Am Getting To The Seal This Weekend The Sled Has 2000 Mi On It I Bought It With 1500 And It Sat For A Whole Season. I Wonder If That Had Anything To Do With It? Thanks For The Advice. Can I Easily Replace The Seal Without Pulling The Engine?
