63 was the number I always heard.
Edit: DynoTech Vol2 Num2 - PZ pipe shootout - 63hp @ 6750RPM - stock pipe, stock Y-pipe, polished ports, SX (modified skirt) pistons, gutted airbox, stock carbs (150 MJ), 100 octane fuel. Note: with identical setup, but Aaen quiet can pipe - 81hp @ 7500RPM
So the number in my head wasn't for a truely stock motor.

ANGUS, I DUG MY *** OFF FOR YOU ON THAT EXCITER CLUTCHING INFO. NO LUCK !!!!! I DO REMEMBER FRIEND OF MINE (94 max) BOUGHT A CLUTCH SETUP FROM HAUCK FOR HIS THAT WORKED GREAT. 3:16 (yammie tony)

They were originally a 56hp "piped" engine that was detuned with the pipe to be able to run in stock 56hp crosscountry racing. Adding a pipe can give the Phazer 10 to 15hp with no other mods (other than jetting). It is not that hard to get close to 80 hp out of a 485cc Phazer and still have a very trailable sled. More is available but you are looking at something that is not very trail friendly.

Thats the truth Phil!!!, a phazer with a pipe and a bender cold air kit would run great, lots of power, reliable. As soon as you ported the cylinders and reeds(really adding airflow) the stock butterfly carbs would destroy the engine every time in the mid range, no matter what, I drilled out the passages in the carbs, used 110 pilot jets, nothing would prevent the mid range slow burndown. Its the way the carbs are designed to pull fuel.(or lack of!!)
We eventually used a set of exciter slide carbs and the sled woke up even more power and we never replaced another piston in it again, they actually can be quite powerfull little motors when done up, but if you mod one, just change the carbs or youll drive yourself broke and nuts all at the same time....LOL!!! ahh the good ol days of the phazers............

First Few Years 84-89 Yamaha said 53 HP,56 HP with SX Pistons was the upgrade for 56HP class. Intake side of piston opened up. "90" Thru whenever they lost the struts Phazer II Yamaha rated at 58 HP. I think the newer ones after struts had 62 or 63. As a by the way, while I'm thinking of it, if anyone here happens to currently own Donahue's winning Eagle River snowcross machine ,("85" I think), I have the front sway bar in my garage. I owned it for a couple years in the late "80s". I Just forgot about it when I sold it. The current owner can have it.

Please give me jetting advise Mrviper, Opsled or anyone else who has tinkered with the Phazer. My cousin put together a 1995 Mountain lite this summer and after reading this post we're a little nervous about the mid range. Below is a list of the mods.
-Sx pistons
-Boyesen reeds
-Bender cold air and exhaust kits
-gutted airbox
-Aaen Quiet Can with stock Y pipe
-Stock carbs with 150 M.J. AND 110 Pilot's
-Stock heads/gasket
-Lightly smoothed the exhaust and tranfer ports
-1200' elevation
-Sx pistons
-Boyesen reeds
-Bender cold air and exhaust kits

-Aaen Quiet Can with stock Y pipe
