HC reliability concerns

Hey Don and Turk.

Whats the deal with the relaibility of the HC's? I never tried them myself because of the few horror stories on this forum with them exploding and taking out the clutches or worse.

I have been using 8D-20's the last two years with the the 48-40 Adv helix and it is a strong setup but would love to tinker with the HC's if relaibility is supported.

Has there been design upgrades recently?

Hi Mark, I have been using h/c's since they came out and knock on wood I have never had a failure yet, the 2 speed (hammerime)ones were the ones that all the problems were stemming from, use the 40-10y, they bolt right in no need to notch the sheave and they work awesome, you could run the helix you already have as well with them, youll get help dialing them in on here if you need it. Run the red primary spring.

spent 2 days doing comparative testing between 8bu-00 & heelclickers @ NBSSR's track in north bay ontario ( 2000' radar ). found absolutly no difference in top speed when both are set up properly.

you talking 8bu-10's for speed running?

Let me ask you guys this. For an srx in TRAIL form with some lake racing involved would the hh's not be a better alternative over the hc's? If I was building one for trail\topend that would be the way I would go, for drag hc's all the way including those "Ugly looking" drag n flys....Right Turk LOL!

LOL..TONY!!! ya... I wont even respond its a waste of time....

Tighten the secondary with hc,s & watch mph,s climb. The biggest thing I see with hc,s is guys don,t run enuff secondary tension.

I hear ya loud and clear Tony, at least you have personally felt/used the differance in the real world......you were the all time most stubborn person to try them...well maybe theres others even more stubborn then you here...LOL!! have a good one :wel:

tighten the secondary!!!

Since we are on the topic about HC's,my helix is a 50/38 with green spring.Turk ..you said tighten up the secondary!!!.Most guys are running 60 or 70 wrap aren't they.I have mine set at 80 wrap right now..is that to much or should I drop to 70 wrap.I have yet ridden the sled with the HC's,this season will be my first time..hopefully I will be close right of the hop.

Run em at 80 wrap or silver at 60 if you have one of those.

that's great..thanks again Turk....it is trying to snow out my way right now....
hoping!!!!!We'll have to go up north to Gilam or even Churchill for early snowfall.

GLAD I LISTENED, I LOVE THEM. I TALKED MAGIC INTO TRYING THEM, HE LOVED THEM. FOR SOMEBODY THAT LOVES TO TUNE. CAN,T BEAT THEM. 3:16 (yammie tony)
