my new pipes :) TURK need some jetting help PLEASE.

Well guys,

i just picked up my new to me pipes. They are for my 98 srx 700. They are Power inc. pipes. They happen to be 18lbs lighter than stockers, and have got to be the only pipes to make power on the srx. These ones have welded in EGT bungs, i might run the EGT later but not right now. These pipes are very rare, and are getting harder to find by the year.

hey i just got a set of these this summer too can't wait to try them out. my motor is case ported by mr viper so i'm hoping the pipes will help even more than on a stock motor. my pipes didn't come with the stinger ends though they just use the stock can wich should help alot for sound levels. mine have the weld in egt fittings as well in the same spot think these pipes all came with them. hope you have good luck with them. we'll have to trade info once the snow flies and see how each other are doing with the new pipes.

My engine is also Lake (in between trail and race i guess, lol) ported. Mine has reed spacers and head has been shaved. The squish angle has been modified and I am hoping that the pipes will also do more to a modified motor over a stock. I will be sure to keep you posted. What did it cost you to ceramic coat yours? if you didnt buy them that way?

Our engine are pretty close as to mods, so we'll see how they do.

I'm glad you like them Nik.

The pipes don't come with the weld in EGT fittings. I drilled and welded the ones on 98700's.
 
$400 bones eeh, who did them??

Yes Valin, i lo0ve them. they sound great. I just got back from putting them on. My sled was running PIG!!! rich before. Now i need to rejet, I am not to far off though. The plugs have a little "white" around the diameter of the electrode.

Someone please let me know how to properly jet for these pipes. A step by step would be GREAT.

thanks i am now going to read it. There are stil lthings about sleds i need to learn (clutching and carb work) this will be good. thanks.


TURK: if you can help me out with a starting point for my jetting. I have a 98 srx 700. Ported, reed spacers, heads shaved, swuish angle modifed and PI pipes. I am not to good at the carb stuff, but i need to learn soon. (so i will be atleast trying it myself). I just need a little bit more fuel. But if you give me a setting i will go and get some jets and try it out, and then go from there.

Valin or 2000srx can help you with the jetting on those, they have both run them.
 
Yes i know. Valin has has to many setups, to the point where he can't help me. But i made a new topic to get TURK's attention. thanks, Nik
 
I have had a few :) I suppose there isn't much I haven't tried.

What were you running for jetting before the pipes on your ported motor? When mine was ported, up here in Sudbury, I would run 1 size down from stock (147.5, 147.5, 148.8), since they are way too rich from the factory. It was getting a bit lean around -20 Celcius though. I also ran 45 pilots with that. I would start around 153's or so with the pipes, and go from there.
 
I have not taken apart the carbs yet. Will the jet say what size it is? I have never opened up a snowmbile carb before. Only my mustang carbs and a few other car carbs. Are the jets on the top or bottom of the carb? i will try and check tomorrow. If I go with 1-2 size jets different i might be ok. I would rather have it rich than lean, thats how its been for the longest time. I will run a 45 main, but the pilots are what get me.

153 is the PTO then what is the centre and MAG????
 
Yes, the main jets are stamped on the bottom. The pilot jets are stamped on the sides. Sometimes they're hard to read though. You will have to take off the float bowl underneath the carburetor to access the pilot jets. They will be about 1/2" inside a hollow tube, and you will use a flat screwdriver to remove them. They are made of brass. The main jets can be accessed by removing the center cap on the bottom of the carb.
 
The pilots will be the 45's. The main jets will be in the 140's or 150's. I always ran 1 size bigger on the mag side when my motor was ported, and no pipes. So, it was 147.5 PTO, 147.5 MID, and 148.8 MAG)

Leave the shelf in your airbox, but take out the two vertical dividers (if they haven't already been removed).
 
Btw, I noticed your heads were cut. When compression is increased, the SRX motors tend to build quite a bit more heat. Be careful when doing long runs on the ice with no cooling. I got caught a few times like that when I wasn't paying attention. Funny how they don't like having the water temp over 200 degrees.
