If you're building an 835 I would just use the 2000 bottom end anyway. The later single PTO bearing will carry the torsional loads of the bigger motor better.
At that point just modify the boss for your pick up coil on your 00 case to fit your earlier ignition, bolt all your early parts to it, call it done.

Thanks for all the info. I think I'm gonna use the 2000 crank and change the bearings.

throw it in a set of "V" blocks and check the runout since your this far down into the engine, mise well have a good straight crank in it within a .001" is good. If its out get it trued and rewelded.
