I have a 96 Vmax 600XT with 6000 miles. I have a lot of oil dripping out of my Y pipe when I run my machine.I have no idea if the owner before me reringed it. Could that be the problem or could it be something elase?

those engines had a thristy oilpump, however I would first check the oilpump cable adjustment.

oil pump

If the oil pump is adjusted ok will the sled be ok to run with that much oil?

Oil

The oil pumps will pump at full open when the pump fails. For the price of a pump all I did was install an oil caddy. Check the gas and fill the oil resivor often. Sounds like you need to replace the Y pipe exhaust gaskets first. Then see if the oil dripping goes away. Sled will run fine with the pump full open, just drink a lot of oil.

The type of oil you use will affect this also, but those twin cylinder stock oil pumps were calibrated with a high ratio cam (lots of oil) from the factory. What made it worse is that by design the oil injected right into the fuel pump, a delay in reacting to the throttle. I installed the kit from Bender Racing that took the oil injection from the fuel pump and relocates right into both carb throats, like they should be, so oil supply is immediate with throttle / RPM demand. Second, recalibrated the oil pump with a lower ratio cam (32:1). This made a world of difference, burns less oil and no oil in the exhaust... Highly recommended...
