I am going to replace the springs in my clutch, since its got alot of K on it, and well I don't know when that was done if ever.

What are the stock springs?

Also any advantages to changing the spring rates without doing any other clutching work? I wouldn't mind having the sled engage a little lower in the RPM for slow trail riding (ungroomed trails)

You'll really want to go through the entire primary and secondary with those kind of miles. My 97 600 was really hard on primary parts. Arms were notched and pins and rollers badly out of round. Give it a good going through and you'll be surprised at what you find.

When i did the clutches on my 96 there didn't seem to be much if anything wrong, after words you realize it was definetly not working how it was suppose to. Basically check over the rollers and everything while your in there.

Dave, thats my plan, there is at least 15 000 km's on this sled, and the Speedo isn't working, so could be a couple 1000 more than that.

I was originally going to order the primary and secondary rebuild kits from RD, but seen a post that suggested staying OEM for Clutch parts. So I will go through both the Primary and Secondary and replace any worn parts with new OEM ones. I ordered the Springs from a Yamaha Dealer, so I will at least have those, but I will be starting to tear down and inspect soon.
