If it is not a brp issue or a yamaha issue it sounds like it's a canadian problem to me! It's all gov controlled so why bitch about it,can't do anything about it anyway,I wish I could bring back cuban cigars but I can't it's all beurocratic mumbo jumbo......................just my 2 cents.................

If you bring a sled up to me, we can arrange some cubans. They're not banned up here!

Wow!! Now, I am just curious, whats the average wage rate up in Canada for say a construction job, mechanic, welder, etc? Do you guys pay income taxes, property taxes, school taxes like we do ir is it differnt ? I know you get medical coverage where as we must have our own medical insurance and get raped for that here, what are some of the differances besides you get 3 times the amount of snow to ride in, have more miles of sled trails then our state has paved roads.....lol

Don I was spending some time looking around on the net for a few jobs. There's an ironworker's union out of Toronto... here's the link to some of the wages advertised. http://www.iw721.org/income_deductions.htm

My dad is a licensed mechanic and is currently working in a mining equipment manufacturing plant. He is making $22 and basically installs hydraulic systems, boom systems etc.

A good friend of mine is doing his apprenticeship for an electritian at a nuclear plant. His starting wage as an apprentice is $18 an hour. He just turned 18.

I am planning on getting my pressure tickets for welding or maybe going in to one of the ironworker's unions, A guy that used to work for the company I am with now told me he is making over $40 an hour now with his pipe and pressure tickets, all position welding tickets... he basically has tickets out the yoohoo and he gets paid really well for them. I can't remember exactly what he's doing though.

These are probably optimistic examples... they could be higher than average, but it's what is around me and what I know people are making. I don't really know the "average" wages for most jobs out there.

that sounds about the same as here, what about the taxes you guys pay? I am just curious as to why you get gouged the way you do on certain things, thats the only reason i am asking.

Don our "all in" income tax rate in Ontario for an income of say > 75K/yr is 48%.
There are ways to reduce that rate with RRSP, etc, ,etc, but if you just work/pay, that's what you will fork out at the end of the year, which I bellieve is a fair it higher than yours? I know the various states vary individually a lot tho. And don't forget on top of the 8% Provincial sales tax (which would be like your State Sales Tax I guess) we also have the stupid GST @ 7% on most stuff you purchase of any value. So on a big ticket item like a sled/car/whatever, that's 15% tax on top of the purchase price.
And lots of stuff is more expensive here, such as our gas, which I still can't fathom, since we make a pile of it, but anyways, our gas has been running around 4.40>4.75/gallon for some time now, which is quite a bit more too?
But, we have better trails, better beer, better whiskey! LOL

Carpenter rate out here is about $25.00/hour.A nurse makes in the area of $30.00/hour .My wife works at a nursing home as an aid and she is in the $18.00/hour ranger.Night shift pays a little more.I used to work on a salary installing doors and windows for $26.50/hour. I don't have my papers, but now I am making an average of $40.00/hr installing counter tops for residential
and apartment dwellings. This includes doing plumbing, which pays a lot.I am happy and only need to work 4 days a week now.I do side work on my own also for even better money. If I worked full time ,I could pull in about $90,000 to $100,000,but don't feel like it.The income tax would be to high and would be working for peanuts really.Rather stay down on income a bit and save on the income taxes.I usually will get a income tax refund with write offs that I am allowed to use..ie) vehicle gas, insurance, tools, office at home, meals with clients..etc.I won't take on jobs anymore that won't pay.I'd rather stay home and wrench on my sleds instead.

our state sales tax is 7.5% here on purchases other then food, but pop and such is taxed. We pay federal income tax, soc.security tax, FICA tax, and then some citys charge you a tax to work there. Our healthcare insurance is stupid priced, for me being self employed it would cost me $400 a month just for healthcare hmo plan in case i need to go get a shot or a pill, thank god my wife has insurance thru her work and can put me on her plan, but its still expensive. i dont think we are too much cheaper then you on the taxes taken out of our paychecks.

you guys are getting hosed on gas, although ,I saw today on tv oil went for a 100 bucks a barrel so we will not be too far behind, its already over 3.00 a gallon here, and they expect everything else will rise of course because it all has to be moved by a truck so milks higher everything will go up.
i try not to think about the oil prices because we pump all ours out of the alaskian pipeline and sell it for less then we buy it for, seems smart to me......

46-50% of our gas price is a tax on the fuel from the government/state, someones gettin rich off all this

about 40% of our gas price is also just taxes i think. i dont have to pay for ANY health care because i am of aboriginal status, all my medical needs are paid for including all my prescriptions. that really helps alot. come on up don i got a nice place picked out for you just across the street incase i ever need any help with anything(cough, porting, cough).

LMAO @ snake.......

anywheres gotta be a better economy then the area im in, used to be all steel mills and GM plants, now all the steel mills are gone/closed up due to foriegn steel and the GM plants are barely hangin on, its sad.

SRXer, our sales tax was changed to 7% sales, and 7% GST, for a total of 14% quite a while ago. Did you not realize that? LOL. Nice, but still rediculous.

As for gas? C-12 right now is about $650 Cdn. for a 55 gallon drum. That's the only fuel that matters!

Milk here in wi has gone from $1.90 6 or 7 months ago to $3.50 a gallon.

That sucks - I like milk!!! Now I have to drink beer because it's cheaper. lol :)

Actually, It's 8%pst and 6% GST, soon to be 5% (Jan).

Well, I guess that's another thing I pay poor attention to! I am so disgusted witht the way the gov't has acted the last 6 months, and the fact we can't even come up with a opposition leader with a modicum of a chance of being elected-kind of defeats the purpose???? And then you have the Senate.
So anyways, life's too short for any of that shit, focus on your family & friends (and sleds), and the taxes will be whatever they will be.

NO, this is not a skidoo issue, yamaha canada is also way over priced compared to the us prices, if only the shoe was on the other foot, if it was the other way around im sure that the us customers would bitch about how they are being screwed compared to the canadian dollar. its just not fair, and my bet is that yamaha will not change there prices along with most everything else.

FYI, I was looking to buy a gauge cluster for my Venom and was shocked to see that in Canada it would cost $516 vs. $285 in the US. With the price of the dollar how does this make sense. MAN I WAS MAD! Yamaha Canada is really sticking to Canadians.

Man you want to talk about wages? The job boom in Fort Mcmurray, Alberta is killing our province (Newfoundland). There are no trades people left, it's bananas. I'm in the Hydraulics buisness and just lost a really good guy to Alberta. He had no knowlege of the industry and over the past two years I trained him in to the point where he could run the shop. I was paying him $15/hr with some intercompany kickbacks. He left and went to Alberta and makes in a week what I make in a month. He works 6 weeks on 2 weeks off, the company flies him from NL to AB, pays him $110.00/ day living allowance and $39.50/hr. Time and a half after 37.5 hrs + 7.5% vacation pay and all the hours he can work in 6weeks. He just finished his first 6 week hitch and cleared a little over $13,000.00 in 6 weeks. The same company has offered me $56.00/hr with the same deal ( nother story). Jouneyman heavy equip. mech working for the NL Gov gets $16-19/hr. AB payes between $60-70/hr. as a result there is a shortage of mechanics. Welders are getting $70-80. Skilled trades people are worth their weight in gold in AB.

I need a new track this year, so I priced one out at the local dealer, $949.00 for a 2"x141". Ordered from the US 2"x151"-$540.00, 141-151 Rail extensions-$105.00, and shipped for $125.00. I would like to support local business as well but that difference is ridiculous.

People are buying vehicles, and there is some sites dedicated to importing vehicles. There are some instances that Warranties aren't being upheld however.

I have heard that BRP doesn't want dealers selling to Canadians, while it does suck, I can understand their point, in trying to stop it, because all their Canadian dealers would go out of business. A price drop is needed, to bring the prices more on par, and to keep Canadian dealers in business, and Canadian shoppers buying in Canada. When new ATV's are 8G's instead of 12 000, I'll buy one, I don't care if its in the US or Canada.

I haven't heard if all manufacturer's have put this policy in effect or not. and you can always get around it by buying a good quality Used Sled.

I hear what you are saying,I like to save to.But lets just look at the overall picture now. If this is the trend and things remain the same, there will eventually be a lot of small business's going bankrupt..it is predicted already.
Lay-offs will start first if a business cannot sell enough product.People will always look elsewhere for a better deal, yet we should buy in our own Country, but what the hell....if the price is better South of the Border..power to the people. The way it sounds now,the xmas rush may not happen as they expect, stores have already ordered they merchandice...but if they drop prices to compete..they are taking a loss. I as one individual won't even go to my Yamaha dealer for anything right now..because they are charging to much.I'll order down south on line from various companies and some of our sponsors.I can perhaps save$25 on OEM belts as an example, and I'll order 6 at a time to.Sparkplugs is another example. But even a Tach for the SRX last winter was priced around $300 here,it was way lower from the states, but I found one used and good for $50 US.Some things you don't save as much, but with the dollar difference now..I think it is worth it.There is shipping of course, but will stay end up cheaper, and in about the same time frame as my dealer will bring parts in.I am making a list of stuff to order soon and probably be ordering from Rich Motorsports or World of Powersports...who ever has the best pricing.Another example is the Amsoil Interceptor Oil here is like $10.89 a quart...way to much.Got to do what I got to do.I feel sorry for some of the companies out here right now who will be suffering.

I remember Turk even saying he picked up a gallon of SEA FOAM I think for around $46 from the States. Here I paid over $80.00,and that is 3.78 litres. Why aren't the prices dropping here....sheesh!!!!!a little pissed.
