I orders a '04 Viper S with the 1.25 Ripsaw track this spring. After some digging, I found out that you can't stud the sled with this track, I then stumbled acrossed a kit that Maxximum Performance sells for the Viper S that is supposed to enable you to run studs in the 1.25" track. I thought I was all set, I just need to spend another stinkin' $330+ on a kit so I can run studs. But, I just found out from my dealer who came back for some Yamaha tech training course, that the Yamaha techs said that if you hit a really big bump or jump the sled (causing the rear suspension to bottom) the track WILL hit the ends of the tunnel protectors = NOT GOOD!

So, based on the above information, I am NOT going to take the chance of spending the $$ for the Maxx Perf kit and also wrecking a new track. I've decided to sell the 1.25 Ripsaw track and buy a 1" Camo. Where's a good place to pick up a new 1" Camo track and what track do you recommend?

I think thats a bunch of B.S. unless the ripsaw track lugs above the windows are cut out...you will not have any issues. Unless you run to long of a stud..........
 
Ripsaw track issues

Yep, it's definitly BS to have to switch tracks just to run studs, but that was obviously not a thought that crossed Yamaha's head when they decide to offer the 1.25 track on a couple sleds. Polaris and others offer a 1.25" track on a many of their sleds and studding is no problem. It's bad enough to have to spend the big $$ to buy a new sled, but then to have to put a new track on right away sucks big time. If I didn't ride primarily in WI, I'd consider not studding it, but with the trails the way they are here, there's no way I would run without studs.
 
I disagree, yamaha thought about this alot and decide to make it as hard as possible to stud to cut down on warranty claims. If we like it or not it is the truth. they build conservative quality, we like the quality but tolerate and tweak the conservative HP, Clutching etc. My 2 cents Yamadoo
 
Yamaha should offer a 1" Ripsaw option for those who want to sud the track for icy trail conditions.
 
You could always run 1.25" studs and give up the holeshot, you'll still have lateral stability and braking, until the studs wear down...

Personally, I'd take the great traction in snow, and simply cut down the lug a little and put in a Trail Grabber. I'd shoot for 1/8" over the lugs to have plenty of clearance.

With that said, will the Ripsaw clear tunnel and heat exchanger protectors at all?
 
I wouldn't waste your time putting in the 1.25" studs, it's not worth it. Adds rotating mass and you still slide on ice probably as much as no studs at all. However, it does make cool markings on glare ice when you're doing donuts. :lol:
 
New track!

I just bought a 1" lug open window camo track involute/extrovert drivers and woodys megabite 1.075 with perf aluminum backers for my RX-1. You can run track loose and no more track racheting! I give more info on how it works in a later post!
