sled value information ??

Question for all you Vintage guys:
I have a line on two 74 Chaparrals, one of them is a liquid cooled SSX440 and the other is an air cooled 440 Thunderbird . As a kid we were a Chaparral family and I was thinkin of picking these up just for the nostalga of it.

I have not personally seen the sleds yet, but I have been told that they are in very good condition but have not been started in years.

Is there any information out there for estimated value of a couple of old Chap's????

if your buying..not worth much. if your selling ..all you can get! i think overall they are worth what you are willing to pay.i would post this question over at vintagesleds.com there is some diehard chaparral owners over there that could tell you what the market value is on them

The 74 SSX 440 is definately worth grabbing ! There is a good artical in the new snowgoer about them. I had a 74 SSX 340 and sold it three years ago for $400.00

I plan to take a look at them this week, I agree with you "phazer" that Burnt orange SSX was a cool sled back in the day.

I started riding when I was 8 on a 72 Chaparral Firebird 340, its amazing how fast these sleds fealt back then, especially Dads 440 with a whopping 60hp !! LOL

I had an SS-III I which is very similiar to the SSX but had a 440 fan engine. It was kind of a lower hp trail version of the SSX and there were not many made. It was about an 8 on a 1-10 scale, in original unrestored condition with the original Chaparral cover. I ebayed the sled last fall and it sold for $325. I would have thought it would have brought much more but I guess there arn't that many Chaparral guys out there. If it were a similiar sled made by Yamie, Cat, Doo or Polie I'm sure it would have been worth $1000+. The SSX440 should be worth more but the T-birds were much more common. As with anything condition is key to value. Hoods, belly pans, tank covers, etc were very fragile on the Chappies and made out of some kind of hard plastic that is very hard to repair. Finding one that is crack free is hard to do. They are a very cool old sled and and the fan engines were made by Fugi (not sure on the liquids). I should have just kept the SS-III and bolted in a late model Poli tripple. It would have been a nice sleeper.
