even with out the carb in it should still pump fuel ,the pump works off the vacuum and preasure pulses from the crankcase . so unless your reeds are bad it should pump by pulling the engine over.chilli said:speaking of fuel pump, are there rebuild kits for them?
Can they be tested without the carbs in? I tried turning over the engine with all the hoses disconnected from the carbs, to see if it would spit fuel. I guess without the carbs in, no vacuum = no gas being drawn from tank?

seriously it is probabaly the wire cap, I replaced mine with NGK ones for about $5 a piece and haven't had any issues with those. My yamaha one OHM'd ok but sparks came out the side. My wifes SXR ran like crap (thought maybe my "great deal" wasn't for a few minutes!!!) when I bought it all 3 were bad at 1600 miles. NGK's are cheap and reliable... so far.

yeah, I kinda mixed 2 problems into 1 thread.
The fouling is likely the cap/wire...the not-starting is likely carbs, but just want to cover everything while she's in pieces

yup just follow the hose down to the case..thats your puppy.chilli said:so thats obviously the 5th hose on the front of the pump? 3 lines for carb, 1 for oil...
